Not hard from 653 to 665 to raise score. Just get that utilization down. and score wil get bumped. I honestly think you shouldn't app for card till you are much closer to 700 fico score range. I always like to have some wiggle room just in case.

+1

I have heard that the charge cards are easier to get than the revolvers and even chatted with an Amex Rep when I was in the process of applying for my Amex card and was told by the rep that the Green charge card was the easiest to get. My scores at the time were 660's on EQ and TU and 708 on EX. I went against his advice and went ahead and applied for the revolver Amex Everyday and got it, but i'm sure it was a lot due to the fact that they pull EX and that happened to be my highest score. Point being though that the rep said I had a really good chance of almost certainly getting the green card with a score in the mid 600's so I'd say you're good to go on that, but of course as always YMMV

I got approved for all my Amex stuff with my Experian FICO score being in the late 600s range. It's a 689 right now and was a 695 not too long ago. Anyway, I got my foot into Amex not by applying for a charge card but one of their revolvers which was one of their Delta Skymiles cards and two months later going for a charge card and another revolver which was the EveryDay card I had wanted to get originally. It's been said that all of their charge cards have similar underwriting criteria and the biggest differences are how much of an annual fee you're going to pay as well as the different benefits and rewards those cards come with.

The only problem with applying when you score is not great is that the APR that will be offered will not be ideal if you are a person that tends to carry balances. Depending on the CCC getting them to lower your initial APR can be impossible with out reapplying and getting another card.

I would tell someone in that situation that is better to wait until their score improves and that it would better for them in the long run to be patient.

I agree 660 or higher should do it. but there are some things you need to do for sure.

im sure you heard the before. but best for amex.

Pay all cards down to 0 except 1.

And keep that utilization as low as possible.

They don't like to see lots of balances on different cards.

Then You are almost guaranteed. Depending on baddies if any.

I am in same boat as you.Waiting until Dec.

Right now my ex is 680 but i have dispute on file with experian. old charge off.

What is strange is transunion and equifax removed right away. Experian is taking their time

Expecting score to jump well over 50 ppoints like other scores did.

Which will be over 700.

And wait to dec. will have 5 inquiries over a year old. will give me boost.

Then here i come Amex.

Sorry for long post. but Good Luck.
