Chase denied me with 715-740~ FICOs all around, very few inqs, no derogs, baddies, or lates, etc. Debt to income is great, income great, stable job history, etc. I applied for the Chase Slate, and I was instantly denied. I attempted to recon, denied. I am currently waiting on a response from someone in the EO, who called me on Monday, so I don't think it's looking good. AAoA is 4 years, etc etc etc. Anyway, I was told I was denied for too many inqs at first, when I explained that I auto loan shopped in June, and there were only two other inqs (one on each report, they pulled EQ and EX), which I explained, she moved on to a different denial reason (lol no mention of it the first go 'round). I have a BT card, and I had (at the time) a $6,000 limit (Merrill Lynch +, and they gave me a CLI with a SP to $8,000 a day or two after haha), and it had a balance of around $3,000~. Thus, she said the utilization for that specific card was too high (around 30-31%~, however; my overall utilization is 10-12%). -_- I am not kidding. I hope the rep from the EO realizes how ridiculous that is and lets me in, but yeah. My experience with Amex is a completely different story, and it's an odd one.

I went on an app spree this past weekend. I apped for Chase first, since I have been trying to get a card with them since Sept 2013 lol, and I was auto denied. I then apped with Amex (those are the only two 'brand' of cards I truly want), and I was instantly approved. I always assumed Amex would be more difficult to get in with than Chase. Nope. I applied for the Blue Cash Everyday, received a $1,000 CL. I was shocked at the low CL, but I was just happy to get in there. Read on the forums that's it's always good to apply for two at once, so I decided to try for the Amex Everyday Preferred, but I apped around 12~ hours after the BCE app. The app has been on hold since the 18th, until today! I just found out today that I was approved for the Everyday Preferred with an $8,000 CL. No idea why the differences in CL, but I am definitely not going to argue with them haha. The Everyday limit is reflective of most of my other cards. I will definitely keep both, regardless.

I actually posted about Chase 'hating' me a few days ago...lol. Chase is definitely a complex company...

usually 6 months of credit history with a major credit card, a 650 or higher for a charge card, 690 or higher for a revolver. Low UTL and low INQ's on your EX. You must have income or some other factor that shows you will pay off the card. Higher income has been known to lower and completely remove any of the above from consideration.

I've found Amex much easier to get the foot in the door with than Chase even without a year's worth of credit history. My first Amex I got when I had about 8 or 9 months of credit history and it was a revolver. Chase you might have to wait longer and be able to have a convincing reason as to why you would want one of their cards just in case you have to go through recon or they don't instantly approve you and the card ends up having a pending status. Amazingly I was able to get my foot in the door with them by getting one of their travel cards so I'm hoping that after a while, maybe I can still get the Freedom and have the limit of my card consolidated into that somehow.

wait untill your newest card is 5-6 months old, and then go ahead and apply for chase freedom, and then an AMEX charge (PRG is the best going deal, no AF for 1 year and the best rewards that AMEX offers), if approved it would proabbaly be best to wait till January and apply an AMEX revolver, for 1 year of back dating goodness.

I've heard the same as you. Chase is really picky when it comes to credit cards and even when they are accepting credit scores in the low 600's I rather not take the chance and HP my credit since I have too many HP's already.

My scores right now are:

TU 680

EQ 640

EX 700

Cold applied for a Green (charge) online about 8 months ago and was instantly approved. Although charge cards don't technically have a limit, I got a nice email from Amex telling me they'd have to stop my charging privileges until I made a payment when I let my balance hit $3K one month, 3-4 months into having the card.

My score was right around 650 (maybe lower but definintely not higher) with gross income only around $50K (in Maryland, for cost of living reference) at time of application. The kicker though was that my util and income-debt ratio were insanely bad (90% util on ~$20K worth of credit cards +$30K in student loans). I think I also had ~12 hard pulls on my reports from a couple app sprees the previous year. So I'd say the Green charge card is extremely easy to get unless my approval was an anomaly. Worth noting though that I have zero lates with solid 10+ years of credit history (though my AAoA was only ~4 years because I opened so many accounts within the last 2 years).

Also worth noting, I applied for a Chase Freedom at the same time with the Amex Green and was flat denied within like 5 seconds. I was also denied for the Amex Delta revolver. Also, I already have a legacy Chase card that's been open for like 8 years, and I've tried multiple times throughout the last several years to upgrade it to an Amazon card but have been shot down every time. Chase also slashed my credit limit several years ago when the credit bubble burst even though I'd never missed a payment and util was actually ok at the time. So I'd definitely say Chase is much more strict. Same with Citi in my experience. Capital One has always been extremely generous with me though.
