Should I give it up?

Went through the pre-qualifiers again today, and Discover It popped up. Currently have a secured one, but wanting to go unsecured. Discover is usually a TU puller.

Well...to my horror, they pulled Equifax. Since the 30 day late got pitched, I guess it raised the score.

I apped, and it acted nice at first, went to a screen where it needed more info such as my current job, years at the job, if I had any assets, etc. This screen popped up a few minutes after the first.

Called Recon, and they said I need more history. Didn't mention the 40 some odd inquries.

My oldest account is 10 months old, followed by 8, and my AAOA is 6 months.

I wonder if I should keep trying to recon, or quit? I have an account with them, so I don't want to tick them off.

Recon wise, is Discover "if at first you don't succeed..." or is it "no means no".

I checked the discover prequalify website not too long ago and it's still flawed in that you can put a fake name and fake SS number and still get one of those discover offers. I thought you said yesterday you weren't gonna apply for anything new for at least six months.

here I can only shake my head !!! how long ago did you get your secured Discover ?? 14 days, 1 month and you pull the trigger on Discover again ?? Do you ever read what recommendations you get ? Looks like you love collecting HPs and denials ??

Definitely time to quit apping if you have 40 inquiries. That is going to look very desperate to any lender. Let your accounts age.

I think its time to freeze your credit reports , since you can't control the urge to app imo :-)

If at first you don't succeed. Try and try again. I bet he hits a c-note in inquiries.

I'd say give it two good years of no apping. You'd be surprised what time will do. It is slow and I do mean really slow, but things will change I guess.

If you keep apping you may just end up with that secured discover you have getting closed. Looking desperate is never attractive.

You need to get in the garden, and I would suggest freezing your reports as someone else also suggested. Will stop you from even being able to app.

I say keep apping. What's the worst that can happen - you still don't have any credit? Keep slinging the mud to the wall as some of it is bound to stick!!!!

I tend to agree with the other posters. My situation aint much better I got 20 inq on TU that are spread out over the last two years. I am about to put TU on ice myself due to the urge.

You should take all of the advice above. Freeze your reports and prevent yourself from apping, because right now it's going to be denial after denial - almost no chance of approval for any prime lending card.

If you have to, you should take a break from MyFico - I know I had to sometimes, because reading about stories when others get approvals makes me want to pull the trigger too. Especially when I should just be gardening.

When i racked up some balances and still wanted more cards, I stopped coming on myfico for like a year, maybe longer. Paid all of that off, my score rose about 100 points, and now I'm back

This is akin to a gambler chasing his losses.
