I have a capital one card $500 Limit that I received in March 0AF and 9.9%. My account is "enrolled" in the credit steps. Today is the 3rd statement cut day, I was thinking of calling the backdoor number after the 3rd statement for a CLI before the auto CLI hits.

I used this card moderately, First month usage around $108, second $85 and the Third just cut for $70.

Just checked my statement and I see that I got a auto CLI to $750 on my **3rd statement cut**.

Is this new behavior of Cap1 to counter people who got CLI before the credit step CLI?

or should I call the backdoor number anyway?

My cap 1 started at 3k, I called before the 3rd statement for a CLI and they took it to 3750. About a week later I received 500 for credit steps, taking it to 4250.

That card turns 6 months old in July -- and I'll call again!

Congrats on the CLI!

I opened the card in Jan (around the 12th) and the first statement cut immediately. I asked for a CLI on March 23rd, then noticed the credit steps CLI a week later, but before the April 12th statement cut. The credit steps message (below) appeared on my April 12th statement. Yes, this was technically my 4th statement.

"Congratulations on your credit line increase! By successfully completing your Capital One Credit Steps, you've earned a credit line increase. You can put this new purchasing power to work for you right away. We look forward to providing even more products and services to meet your needs in the future. (Credit Steps is a service mark of Capital One.)"

They didn't do that with my card. I opened my account about 4 months ago with an initial CL of $500. Immediately after my third payment cleared, I called the backdoor number and requested a CLI. They bumped my CL up to $1000. So far (4 months out), I still haven't received the auto CLI of $750; I'm expecting it within the next couple of weeks, though.

But to answer your question directly: they never gave me the auto CLI on the third stataement cut. I had to request it.

BUT they gave me Auto CLI on the 3rd statement cut, I called them to give another CLI was denied due to a recent CLI. bummer, I missed the boat.

I also said I will be using this card to make lots of purchases every month. He quickly raised the limit from $500 to $1000. Feel like i have accomplished something today. so for the month of June, got a total of $700 added to my meager $300. He said " the more you use the card, the higher we will raise your limit."

Thank you so much sr.

I'm in shock!! Just called Cap1 (backdoor) and got a $300 (whoopee!) CLI on my Platinum - that brings me to the grand limit of $1050. I hadn't bothered calling before, because I was under the impression they never ever increase CLs on Platinums after that measly 3-month increase for being good with your credit.

I actually wanted to find out if any kind of upgrade to a less dull card (no hassles cash, for example) might be possible, but got the 'not at this time' response - there's obviously certain offers available that they can give, and nothing beyond that.

I have to say the CSR I spoke to was absolutely great - infinitely better than any Cap1 CSR I've ever encountered! She mentioned that they are 'proactively' trying to make their cards more desirable to their customers and give them the features that they actually want. She was very very apologetic that they didn't have any upgrades to rewards cards 'available' for me, but seemed to think that it couldn't hurt to keep checking back as I am doing 'all the right things' and using my card in the way that they 'prefer' their customers to use them (and there was me thinking they preferred the ones who run up huge balances and pay a fortune in interest every month)... maybe the evil machine that controls who gets what with Cap1 will ensure that I never get a decent card off them, but she was very lovely and helpful nonetheless!

Hmmm...i wonder if I should try calling the back door number. When I called the main customer service number a few weeks ago, they denied me. I think the reason was because I wasn't using my card. Whatever the excuse was it didn't really make any sense. I have the letter at home. I think I might try to get my measly CL of $500 raised.
