Chase Freedom Visa Signature Upgrade?

I emailed Chase about upgrading my Chase Freedom Visa to a Chase Freedom Visa Signiture. I got this reply:

"Thank you for contacting Chase about the product change to
the Chase Freedom Visa Signature card.

The Chase Freedom Visa Signature card requires a minimum
credit line of $5,000.00.

At this time, I'm unable to change your account to a
different product. An account that is open less than 12
months is not eligible to change to a different product.

I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

As an alternative, you may apply for a new Chase credit
card."

The credit limit on my card is over $5,000, and I have had the card for 6 months. I'm a little confused because I wouldn't consider this a product change in the way that their reply seems to make it sound. Is upgrading to a Visa Signiture card really considered a PC rather than just an upgrade? Should I try again?

In my experience - I was over a year and I emailed them and they said they would contact me on the phone within 24 hours. They verified some info and mailed me the new card.

Chase considers it a PC, and for a PC you have to have your account open for 12 months. You'll have it in 6 months!

I guess I should re-word that, I messaged them via their online messenge center.

And I guess I shall wait, I just thought that I was keeping the same product, the Freedom, and that changing from Visa to Visa Signiture would just be simple like a CLI.

I heard it needed to be a year also, would it do a HP if it were converted? Because currently i am in the same boat, once my freedom hits the 5k mark i would like it switched also.

I have read someplace that it is a soft pull, but that not everyones gets approved for the Signiture even if they meet the $5K+ requirement.

Guys, I literally just did this. My limit is 6700, and my card was opened 8/24/13 and I requested the conversion 8/30/14. I just called the number on the back on the card and they did it. No fuss, no muss. All they did was read a few disclosures and told me I'd have my card in 3 to 5 business days.

I also secure messaged them and asked about the EMV chip. They responded within three hours and said it would have the EMV chip with chip and signature technology.

I sent a secure message last week to upgrade my amazon card to visa siggy and they replied that it has been forwarded to some specialist.End of week i received new card, same account number, no hp! Not sure why they are referring it as product change, when card number can remain same.

No HP. I know because my Freedom card was also converted to a Signature Visa in August.

I replied to Chase to verify that it is really considered a PC, and I got this reply.

"Thank you for contacting Chase about switching your card
to a Visa Signature card.

I wish to inform you that changing your card to a
different product type is considered as a product change.
Since your request is to switch your card from a Visa
Non-Signature card to a Visa Signature card, it is
considered as a switch or change of products. This does
not change the account number, rewards or Annual
Percentage Rate (APR).

Further, your request to switch your card to a Visa
Signature card is being forwarded to an escalation
Specialist who will review the request and contact you
once the review has been completed.

I appreciate your patience in this matter."

So that confirms it is a PC with the 1 year requirement. It does say it's being escalated, but I don't see much hope if they stick to their 1 year rule. Only six more months to go!

No HP whatsoever. Again, they just read me some disclosures. Besides, why would a HP be necessary?

Aside from that, I think they just see if the offer is available on your account. That or they try to do it and the computer will tell them yes or no.

Note the SM sent the new T & C with a request that I return a approval acknowledging the new T & C. Did that and they expedited the card (no telephone call or SP). Next I sent the SM a request to have an EMV Chip card (CSRs said it could not be done) and had the Chase Freedom Visa Signature Card with EMV Chip in five business days. For me the moral of the story is go to Chase SM.

I did it by calling the number on the back of the card. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. Sure, it was a rep from India and I had a difficult time understanding what she said, and we all know the stigma of frontline CSR's not knowing anything, but she was able to do it.

For the record, SM confirmed my new Freedom to have the EMV chip, but it may have had it already.

This should be clear cut black and white but seems like a YMMV situation, when it shouldnt be. Either you're eligible for the conversion or not. Simple as that.
