CLI request BOA..and they said nope with HP

So I thought I'd try a cli request via boa website and surely was denied instantly. Said they would give reasons in 10 days.

A day later ( today ) BOA calls and asked if I could unfreeze my TU for them to do an inquiry to process my request. I said no.. i don't want to risk losing points and I simply wanted more buying power so I can use BOA more often. CR said sure he would be happy to consider granting me a CL of 10,000 but I needed to unfreeze.

Anyways looks like they won't be do anything until I lift the freeze on TU.

At least for me it's clear BOA wont consider a CLI without a HP. And it looks llike they pull TU for CLI request.

( If I am going to give up a HP it may as well be for a new account or something that gives a signup bonus = $400 or more. )

Customer initated CLI's are HP's on TU 99.99% with BOA.

Your thread title is misleading. I thought you took a HP and BoA denied you. But they didn't HP you yet?

They had to have HPed my report to know it was frozen. They asked if I had all 3 of my reports frozen I said yep. Then they asked me to unfreeze TU. I said nope.

To answer your question yes they did a HP and found out that mine were all frozen. Alternatively boa could have done a SP even if they were frozen.

Bigblue, interesting thing recently. My wife was at one of the local stores. They offered 20% additional discount on new credit app purchases. My wife almost fell for the trap until she turned to me. I told her if we are not saving $400 and get 0% interest, we ain't signing up.

No, they didn't HP your reports. One of the reasons people freeze their reports is to not add new inquiries. You requested a CLI with frozen reports, but they are unable to process the request until you unfreeze.

I would love to see proof that BoA hard pulled your credit report, with said report frozen, then ask you to unfreeze the report, so they can pull it. I'm done arguing my point, but if your report is frozen, there was no HP. Go refresh your credit reports and see for yourself.

HPing on frozen report will return no inquiry.

This was a calculated strategy to see if boa would approve the cli on a sp.

Everyone's credit plans are different but personally i don't think it would been too much a waste of a Hard Inquiry especially when the analyst apparently had their mind made up to bring that current limit to 10K. Some would take that any day from BofA. Just sayin'

No. That definitions needs updating.

A hard inquiry is often the result of a hp.
But not in the case of a frozen report.

It is you that is confused. Hard inquiry and hard pull are the same thing, but people say different terms. They tried to pull, but couldn't because it was frozen. I've never seen someone get an inquiry with a frozen report and the lender come back saying it is frozen so they see nothing.

BoA could not possibly conduct a hard pull through a frozen report unless you explicitly provided them a one-time PIN.

While they may have attempted the HP, they were disallowed from doing so.

Which is why they subsequently explained they could only process the CLI request if you allowed them access to your CR.

It was how I had planned it from start to finish.

They obviously had access to my CR from the many SPs they conducted in the past few months. I was hoping they could attempt a HP and failed.. and luckily for me decided to go with the SP report they have on file.

So no I am not confused. It was a calculated strategy which failed.
