You mentioned PNC Bank, I've found them to be a very conservative lender. I've banked with them since 2012 (checkings & savings), and they until just recently wouldn't approve me for a card, and even then it wasn't a great limit.

If you open a checking account with them you may eventually get a message saying you're prequalified for one of their three cards, and it will tell you your pre-qualified starting credit limit and APR, which I had never seen before in a pre-qualification. My mom gets this message everytime she signs in, but she already has a Visa Siggy with them. I have never recieved a pre-qualified from them when I sign in.

And that is a GREAT reason to bank with them. They are super-conservative with credit cards and rewards, but they will take care of you if you are a member when it comes to loans. Home loans, car loans - and yes, credit cards - with some fantastic interest rates. The reason this doesn't count for them when it comes to credit cards is because IMHO one should not put anything on a credit card that one cannot pay off by the due date, interest rates be damned. But installment loans? Hello CUs. Remember that they can offer low interest when they loan money to because they don't have the overhead and expenses of a competitive rewards program (and because they don't have to think about making money for shareholders).

KeyBank, Huntington, 5/3 are a few off-the-beaten-path issuers, but they may have geographic limitations. Huntington gave me instant approval on 2 cards - $10k each. 5/3 gave me instant approval for $5500 card. KeyBank subjected me to the equivalent of Amex FR up front, but still gave me $10k.

PNC is probably more conservative than Penfed - primarily because Penfed actually gave me something. I wouldn't apply to Penfed unless your EQ is clean and your Fico is 770+. They're both sensitive to inquiries and new accts.

I have heard that DCU will give out healthy credit lines if you have 3yrs aaoa. I have heard from someone a while back that if you create a savings account through certain credit unions they will do a SP and then you can apply for a credit card with only 1 HP. I am not sure what credit union he used. Has anyone heard of this?

Also, Where can I find a list of bank that issue cards that are the non traditional banks? No chase, boa, amex etc..
