Which card to purchase iPhone 6 with for warranty - Discover IT or CSP?

Hello,

I'm planning on going through my card's rewards shopping portal to preorder my iPhone 6 on Apple.com and was wondering which card I should use for better warranty protection.

Discover.com (I have Discover IT) offers 5% cashback
Chase Sapphire Preferred (Visa Signature) offers 2points/dollar

Obviously Discover offers the better rewards, but do you know if their extended warranty is better than Chase Sapphire Preferred? I've tried looking at the benefits, but can't find major differences.

Do you have AMEX card? AMEX offers the best warranty protection. While I haven't used its extended warranty protection, I have used its purchase protection before, twice in fact. FIled the claim online and the next day the claim was approved. Refund happened a week later.

Don't know about Discover, but Chase hires third-party insurance company to handle these claims. Insurance company is, well, insurance company. They'll try to come up with various reasons to deny your claim.

Do you have an Amex, if so, go with them!!!! ahha.

Otherwise, CSP and Discover offer the same purchase protection. They just go through different companies. I've used it on the CSP, and I didn't have any issues.

I use my Amex to buy anything techy, but from what I understand, Amex will extend your manufactures warranty for an extra year. Apple Care is the warranty that your iPhone comes with. Thus, when that expires, Amex acts as your "Apple Care" for an extra year. Whatever their warranty covers, Amex will do too.

I paid for Apple care insurance on my iphone 5s (I forget what it does but it's a full warranty for quite a while.. it was worth it to pay that rather than Verizon.)

If it breaks, they offer you a discounted phone. If something stops working, no water damage or damage do to the phone being dropped, they'll give you a replacement phone.

Of course! My mom has the Platinum. And she lost her iPhone at the airport. No biggy, Amex covered the purchase of a new unlocked iPhone. I love them.

@kennyrs, Plat and Cent offer lost protection, along stolen and damage like other Amex cards. Typo of mine. My apologies!

Discover offers same as Amex. 1 year over any warranty that you would get. i would got discover. and 5 percent back to boot. simple choice.

Pretty much any competent credit card will offer 1 year extended warranty. Whether or not they will honor it is a different matter.

Not sure how Discover works, but pretty much all Visa/MC issuer hire third-party insurance company to handle them

You can also use AMEX+ShopDiscover. Most purchase will went through. Honestly for huge expense I value superior protection+warranty from AMEX than rewards.

Now you are making me think how are you gonna get that 5 percent. the only way would be to wait until october 1st when the online shopping jumps in.

as i have discover too. but for iphone 6 , i decided to app for the barclays financing Visa. 0 percent interest. don't care of warrenty. if you are experience iphone user. you will know extra warrenty is uselss. as no one will have the same iphone for 2 years.

I have had every version.

so after about 9 months. the thing will be obsolete and you will be ready to get rid of it.

so good luck. but take it from someone who have been there done that. just get you 5 percent and be happy.

There are plenty of people who holds on to their smartphone for more than 2 years. Not everyone is a technology chaser.

I thought I had to use my Discover card to get the Discover shopping portal benefits?

Yes I still have original. But it's a nice cup holder. As no apps work on it any more. Since. The others are part if buy back. No need to chase period. As most will buy old phone. Example. 5 a is selling on eBay used. 450-500. Easy to upgrade for free.

Again, these claims are handled by outside party. They are not handled by Chase, Capital One, BofA, etc.

Now I don't know if Discover handles this by themseleves like AMEX, or hire outside company like others. If it is later be prepared for denial.

Yes. The way that this is done is because a cookie is placed on your computer. When a purchase is made, your account will be credited. Regardless of whether you used your Discover or not.
