What is considered a good Macy's Card credit limit?

I just opened one yesterday and was approved with a $1700 limit. It seems a little low considering my revolvers are all in the tens of thousands but I wasn't sure if this was typical for a department store limit.

If you opened it online, that is a HUGE line before calling in to go through security verification with them.

you shoudl have opened in store so you could have gotten the Macy's Amex at same time.

You can call and ask them if they need to do verification because you are extremely disappointed with the CL and if they ask you how much you want, tell them $10k, they will counter.

otherwise you can request CLI through chat every 3 months and they will tell you it will be a hp but 97% of the time the computer uses the credit that they have on file which they update every 30-90 days so it's never a hp. and again ask for huge increases and the system counters.

I just went $3 to $4500 on store and $4k to $9k on amex I had asked for $5k store and $10k amex.

Keep in mind $1700 could just be your store limit and you may have actually gotten approved for the Amex line as well. The Amex line is usually quite higher. I initially got approved for $1200 in store and then called to ask about the Amex and found out I had also gotten that attached to the card for $5000. They're good with limit increases too, I called in a year later and they doubled it w/o a HP.

Sorry to hijack, but are you saying that you can get Macy's store card and Macy's Amex in a single pull if you app in store? Do you have to request that at the register or does the clerk prompt you when running the store card app?

If you apply in store and don't check the box to not be considered for the Amex line they automatically consider you for it. The person at the register won't see it though because they'll only see the approval for the store card to put your purchase on. If approved for the amex line you'll have 2 CL's when you sign in on macys.com once you register the amex line in addition to the store card and they have separate payment dates as well for each line of credit. Also, under the same card you can have additional lines for things like furniture, jewelery, and special purchases.

I actually opted NOT to get the AMEX Macy's card and just got the regular store card. I already have an AMEX Blue Cash and didn't want to have 2 new lines of credit, just wanted one.
