Pretty sure you will get a hard regardless of your receiving a credit line.

That is what a account manager said to me. I called to try to reopen a card that apparently went inactive from 2000. He said that he couldn't reopen it but i could reapply. ( of course I didn't because because I am admitted into the center.) I did ask for more info about there hard pulls. Wondered if there is a pre approval site.( I like to humor myself.) He said no but during the app process they do a soft pull to see if you qualify, then if you qualify they do the hard pull to see how much you qualify for.

Hmmmm? I may have to call to see if there is any truth to that?

Anyone else heard that?

Yeah that sounds fishy. Probably just enticing you to apply. Take it with a grain of salt.

As I like to point out as often as I can, frontline CCC CSRs know what they're talking about approximately 50% of the time. The other 50% is made up on the spot when they don't know how to answer your question.

This is especially true when it comes to arcane topics such as credit reporting and credit scores.

Just out of topic, but similar.

I had applied for a wells Fargo credit card in Nov, they hard pulled Ex & TU and you know what they give me the reason for rejection? "Not a US Citizen". I had to select one of the option if i am a US Citizen or not while applying.

I don't know why they have to put 2 inquires (in TU and EX) to figure out that I am not a Permanent Resident or US Citizen?

Anyway my point it, banks will always pull hard whenever you apply for a credit.
