What is the lowest fico score you seen Capital One take to open their Platinum Mastercards? Just Curious to know...

I really couldn't tell you, but I can tell you that I was sent a PreApproval through the mail almost two years ago from Cap One and I had ZERO open credit, a one year old foreclosure, a 2nd mortgage Charge-Off and a Federal Tax Lien. It was the Credit Steps program and I was approved instantly for $1000. I had NEVER had a limit that high before. It went to $2500 in 7 months.

I don't have a fico score yet, but my Fakos are Ex 654 Eq 644 Trans 710, only baddie is a paid state tax lien. I was decline in June & Sept for Capitol One Plat & Quicksilver One, as well as secured. I have Store cards all in good standing since June, & AU for 2 credit cards with low usage. The reasons for my denials were lack of credit.

I also tried to recon several times with no luck. I don't get how some people get approved with several baddies, bankruptcy, etc.

I agree, Organiclover1. I don't understand it either. I can't get approved for a Synchrony card ever. First time I tried was about 6 years ago. Denied. Tried Walmart a year ago with a preapproval offer, denied. Tried PayPal Smart Connect, denied. I give up. Comenity Bank seems to give me whatever I have been SP preapproved for.

Well it depends on the severity of the baddies and how long since they occured. For example, a person can show responsible credit use years after a BK that will show lenders they can be dependable to pay back.

FYI Capital One does 3 hard pulls, one for each. So you might want to consider looking elsewhere if you can. Some other places will only do 1 hp, or 2. I think C1 is the only one that does 3. But I'm not sure who else to recommend to try applying for a low score card.

With scores in the 500's i wouldn't even try and go for an regular credit card, i would look at secured card first. One of the favorites around here is the boa one which can be converted to an 3-2-1 secured card, so you can actually get some cash back while rebuilding your credit. If i were in your shoes that is how i would go about trying to get your scores up, so you can apply for better cards down the road.

I agree with Mong b/c I didn't notice your CS are so low. I would only do a secure card application. You'll be denied for a non-secure card. Maybe go with 2 secure cards to help build your credit repair faster.

Its easy to say don't apply for CapOne when you have 650 credit score, when you rebuilding, then its a bit harder to find credit and your choices are a lot slimmer selection, I would take 3 HP's for each card instead of First Premie or Credit One and friends.

I do got two secure cards one from Capital One Bank and One from USAA. I am not applying for any unsecure credit until i build up a relationship with those secured cards I currently have. I just wanted to know the ideal credit score range with Cap One to qualify. Thanks for the advice as I truly appreciate the time you guys take out to reply.

I would go with James's advice then for Capital One. I don't know much about secured cards. The nice thing about Capital One is that they have free soft pulls for CLIs, not all CC companies do that. Also I like their website too.

My hopes is to qualify for an unsecured card with USAA. Hopefully after the two year markwith the USAA Secure Card I currently have USAA will grant me an unsecured card.

I was approved for the Platinum and the QS1 with a 587 score, 90% utilikzation and around 10 inquiries on my report. Both are in the credti steps program and start at $300

Hmm if he was able to get an unsecured card $300 then maybe try too. I had 595 CS and multiple collections accounts Jan 2014 & they gave me a $300 unsecured. So maybe try that first & cross your fingers. It's a lot nicer than having $300 cash locked up on a secure card.

I don't know what my scores are but I was just approved for a Venture. My Exp is frozen so they could only use TU and EQ.

OP- are you military? You would have to be to get with USAA. Why don't you try your hand with NFCU. lYhey seem to be very understanding.

I am ex air force. I have been with usaa since 2008 and I had a checking account that I had a charge off with them that I need to take care of before I can go back with them.
