Amex Backdated - Even Further!

Talked to Amex a few weeks ago and had my card backdated from 2014 to 2005 as I had a card for a short period of time that year. Talking to my father tonight and came to realize he had an Amex that I was added to as an AU when I was 18 - Don't think I ever had the card in my possession.When I heard I was an AU in 1999 at the age of 18, I called and they changed my member since date on both my cards to 1999. Score and another increase in AAoA!

WOW, that's awesome!! Come to think of it, I think my dad did have me as an AU in 1983 when I was 18. Does that mean I should be able to get the MSD 1987 on my three cards changed to 1983??

Does this backdate the Credit Record too? I thought a fairly recent change meant that for AU cards it didn't but might be wrong

Not suppse to backdate AU cards, but if you get the right person on Amex chat,it can be done. I was an AU in 1987 and was able to get it again after a few tries. Yes will backdate credit report if you have you own personal account aswell. It will still look like a new account, as it will report only recent acivity. I had a underwriter ask why my Amex cards said opened 1997, but only shows history for the last few months.

Must have been a fairly new UW. I'm pretty sure UWs are quite familiar with AMEX's reporting policies.

His MSD would have been set at the time he was added as an AU. In fact, back then, the MSDs given were often the original MSD of the primary cardholder. The CRs currently update with your set MSD on accounts where you are the primary member.

If you are a primary now, Amex will use the year in which you became a cardmember (AU included) to re-establish your MSD. Only primary accts will be backdated on your CRs; AU only accounts would not not be backdated

My MSD was backdated to the year I was added to his account. He had opened the card several years prior to that.

If you were added before like 2012, then yes it will backdate & report too that(MSD) year. If after 2012, even if they backdate your AU account will not report the backdate. So unless, you also have your own Amex account, backdaiting is usless!

Even if you have your own membership it can be useless. My MSD is 1998. I'm an AU on my wife's BCP and it's not backdated. It reports as opened in 1/2014 when the account was opened and I was added as an AU.

Her BCP is backdated to 1/2013 which is the year she became an AU on my BCP.
