Did you try to check if you were prequalified for the card first? Usually with Chase those tend to be quite accurate. They are also really good with recon.

Yes I did the pre qualify for the Discover card and it stated I qualified, and on the Chase Freedom I got something in the mail stating I was prequalified (which accidentally got tossed in trash). Do you think I should try for the freedom card right now too.

remember if it was actually prequalified or suggesting you should try to applying? i remember getting one of those letter, and with suggestion of credit karma, i decided to apply for it, and got denied, and my bro asked "was it actual pre-qualified letter?" so i double checked, and it wasn't

Thanks for responses! But my question is will it hurt my credit score to badly applying for 2 cards, as I just had 1 hard pull for discover it & got approved? Noe going for Freedom card, should I wait 6 more months or go for it? I am undecided here. Need advice. Thanks!

i think discover pulls EQ

after you check chases pre-qual site (and get an offer) then most likely chase will pull TU (plus EX with your scores) when you apply.

so after it is all said and done you should have 1 inq on each CR which is no problem. YMMV geographically

IMHO go for it, grow the 2 cards (and the inquiries) together.

a lot of people here app in "sprees" of 2 to 4 cards at a time.

in 2 years you will be much better off than if you spread them out. (better CL and AAoA, no inq's)

note* chase has rarely been known to pull all 3 reports for an app, i would expect 2 and be lucky if 1.

edit: typing challenged today

Now I think I have a new card consideration for the future and considering how I'm already with Chase, I'll definitely take a look at it next year or so. What scores are they looking for when it comes to the AARP? I already have an idea for the Amazon Chase card but I have no desire for that one whatsoever.

Would be kinda weird for me to have a card like that or to even think about joining AARP so young but you really got me thinking there.

FYI after being approved for Discover IT they pulled Equifax (fico 670) and there was NO score change from inquiry. I tried for freedom and did not get approved. Chase pulled Experian (my lowest number at 658) and the inquiry only caused a fico score reduction by 1 point ! I will not apply for any more cards for 6 months now, and then retry freedom after I get my numbers up by end of Feb.
