i have always gotten an immediate yes to any internet credit card application. The response I got was they would be taking up to ten days to review my application. That is unsatisfactory as I will be traveling for several weeks and doubt they can get me the card if it is 't approved in the next day or two. At point I would just like to forget it . Should I call and tell them the situation. There hasn't even been a hard credit pull yet or would that have negative credit implications if. I correspond with them and say forget it. I wanted the card before the trip to help meet the rather large spending requirements for the incentives.

Thanks for any strategies or help?

The application was to Barclays. They can handle the response anyway they choose and that is not at all offensive. I just had not experienced this and would now like to get back to square one and I don't have enough interest in the card to wait or be involved in correspondence.

Is it reasonable to just call Barclays and tell them I don't want the card because of the circumstances I mentioned. I have no relationship with them.

Thanks for replying.Finstar. The advertisement said "get a thirty second decision" I wouldn't have have applied if I had known there was going to be a longer process. Thirty second decision to me meant yes or no in thirty seconds. Maybe others think thirty seconds means ten days . Regardless it is water over the dam and I will let it play out or call credit and ask them to withdraw my apllication if that is possible.

IF I wasn't going on a trip for several weeks, it wouldn't be relevant .

if you got 7-10 days, you can check the application status on barclay website, it should post the decision within 2-3 days. Pretty sure barclay aready hp'd your credit report anyways, they do it the same day you apply for the card. If you are applied, then you can always expedite the card with extra charge.

If if is your first Barclays card it might as well be just for verification. Btw from all my cards the only instant approval was the 2nd Barclays card (SM) ...all other cards went to the "you will receive an answer in xx days" but so far all accepted. For me it is always a verification issue. I would not cancel the app as Barclays normally pulls your credit immmediately at app and you have taken the pull already Check TU. Good luck !
