Capital One CLI--A $10,000 mistake??

I recently requested a CLI from Capital One and they came back with a whopping $300 bringing my CL from $3250 to $3550. I just received a letter saying that they have increased my CL to $13,550. I am guessing they made a $10,000 written error. I would love to have that CL, but of course my account only shows the CL being $3550. Should I call them and try to entice them to honor the letter? Could it work?

You'd have nothing to lose by trying. Of course, do you really NEED another CLI?

Technically, No! But I would like to have at least one card with a $10,000 CL. I have a very good fixed APR on this card so it would be nice to have a decent CL. I wonder what they will say??

I would be happy with a $300 CLI on my Cap1 card, it's been stuck at $500 for 9 years.

What steps should I take to try to get them to honor the letter? Supervisor, etc.?

By all means! Try different supervisors at different times, back door numbers, sending secure emails, the whole sch-bang.

However, if it really is just a typo, I don't see notoriously stingy Capital One honoring it. Most of their cards have internal caps on the CLs anyway.

How are your scores? You could always try and persuade them to open one of their prime cards with that CL.

If I wore cap1 cap , I would send another letter saying that your credit limit has decreased to $3550. hehe, jk.

My scores were hovering around 640 with about 95% util. Now it is down around 60% and will be down around 45% in the next 3 or 4 days. Hopefully will be down below 20% by the middle of August. I was going to check my scores at the end of the month when I will have cut it in half to see what kind of score increase I received.

I just spoke with CSR Manager and he said he is going to submit the request with a recommendation that they honor the letter. He said he didn't have the final say, but he would recommend the CLI and they would review tomorrow morning. He said they would take a look at the account and review the letter they sent. I doubt it means anything, but it's a start! Anyone want to lay down odds?

Odds: 5-1 they say refuse to honor the letter.

They want me to fax them a letter and also a copy of the letter that was sent to me. I am going to try to hold them to this, but we all know CCC's don't always do what we want.

UPDATE...I have called twice and each time they have said they are not done reviewing the account. Now, I just received a letter saying they could not approve me for the CLI increase because I had not had the $300 CLI for 6 months. I have a strange feeling they pulled a hard inquiry. I am going to be furious if they did since all I did was inquire about a letter they sent me saying they were increasing my CL to $13,550. I will be pulling my CR next week to find out. We shall see!!!

UPDATE: I just faxed them the letter today. I decided to follow-up and see how far I could take this. I should have a decision by Monday. We'll see!!

I don't think you will get the increase because it was obviously an honest mistake on the part of the company. Besides if they do "honor" their mistake and increase you, legally they can hit you the very next month with a CLD (credit limit decrease) and as I have learned this past month they can use any excuse they want when doing that because it is their card, you are just borrowing it.

I wish you luck though. It would be nice to receive a limit like that. I have a card, "A" as in only one card with only a $300 limit. My balance has never gone over 60 bucks, I try to keep it in the 20 dollar range, but in all essence that card is useless except to rebuild. And I found out yesterday that after my 18 months of good behavior they will no longer turn it from secured to unsecured. As George Lopez says: FTP Orchard FTP.

It's finally over!! What a complete waste of time talking to the morons at Cap One!! They said that they can't offer over $500 and that it was a computer error. It's amazing how I have gone from being very satisfied with Cap One to being ready to sock drawer them after talking to those idiots!!

Maybe they will at least combine my new account that I received from them the other day into one CL and maybe a small increase at that point. Does anyone have any ideas on whether to combine the two accounts?
