Dual-interface Amex cards now available!

You can now get a dual-interface Amex card. Going by the reason for replacement they call them "chip and signature plus contactless" - that is the term used under the "request reason" online.

I was only able to get it for Blue Cash Everyday, NOT Costco or Delta. Which is unfortunate, as the Delta card has no foreign transaction fee, and being able to use contactless for small transactions would offset some of the disadvantages of signature when travelling. I hope they offer it for the Delta soon. Still, it's nice to have in the US... it's a little faster than swiping, and much more secure. It works far more places than the contact chip works. It's nice enough I'm using my BCE a little even though the Delta is a much better card for rewards to me (Delta miles are worth a lot to me). Not sure how long I'll be using it, but I hope Amex decides to offer it on the Delta soon.

Everyone call and see if you can get your Amex as "chip and signature plus contactless" - maybe if they see demand they'll bring it to the Delta card (where it has the potential to be VERY useful for travel)!

I wonder if the lovely set I just ordered as replacements has this feature.

If not, i'll wait 6mos and re-order.

I highly doubt it, it seems to be a rather hidden/by request thing - I only found out due to another board online, but no need to wait six months. Wait two weeks (I believe this is required between card orders) then call them and be specific in what you want.

I just attempted to order a replacement via online chat, and she seemed like she put it through, but then when I checked the status it said reason for replacement is "magnetic strip". When you checked your status did it actually say it was because you wanted one with both contactless payment and EMV?

"CONVERT TO C AND S+CONTACTLESS" is the request reason. That said, you won't know until you get the card as I believe the card type picked and the reason are different things.

Hmmm. I've had it on my delta skymiles gold for almost a month. Just call and replace and you will get it

Hmmm.. that isn't a reason on my SPG, PRG or Plat.

Just four reasons:

Damaged

Lost

Stolen

Never Received

Is it at the first screen or somewhere near the end?

You need to call them, you can't change it yourself online. The reason will show up online after you call them as what I wrote.

And no, it DEFINITELY is not available on the Delta and it just came out a few days ago according to the other forum, so I guarantee the poster who said he does that he does not have it on his Delta card.

It is availble for Costco TrueEarnings. I got mine replaced. Got the new card yesterday.

It is availble for Costco TrueEarnings. I got mine replaced. Got the new card yesterday.

Really? I just called again and was told no, it's only for their own branded cards. Are you sure they actually sent you a card with contactless (a wave symbol on the back and you can just tap to pay...)

YES, it is called dual interface. The chip has two interfaces, a contact pad and a contactless antenna. Small purchase only requirement doesn't always apply in the US, since everything's online.

From http://www.smartcardalliance.org/smart-cards-intro-primer/ :

"Two additional categories of cards are dual-interface cards and hybrid cards. A hybrid card has two chips, one with a contact interface and one with a contactless interface. The two chips are not interconnected. A dual-interface card has a single chip with both contact and contactless interfaces. Notice it says chip and signature, not c and s + contactless. You're probably not going to get contactless cards... sorry to break it to you.

is made. Swipe, insert, wave, it doesn't matter to me. IJS
