Amex frozed...cant make purchases.??

Hey guys i went to sears today and when i was about to pay ...i was declined, on both my cards ...now i called amex and they said that is frozen and that an account manager needs to speak to me... but theyll bee there until monday..m what can i expect..?? What is it about??? Help please

I think more info is needed how long have you had the cards, what kind of cards credit or charge, do you pif each month or carry a balance, what's your utilization, making any unusual purchases or major change in spending habits. I'm guessing with this info it may help giving an answer

I barely received tho this month ... i havent made no payments... its blue cash everyday and the everyday card....i just did balance transfer on one and been using that card the other one is untouchable.. .CL $9,500 balance $2,000...

Sounds like either a fraud alert, or a financial review.

I'm leaning towards the latter because that department doesn't work 24/7 and they are asking you to wait till monday. Just comply with the process and you should be fine.

Could just be fraud verification that Amex does for new card members.

Especially if they're brand new.

Does the site say charging suspended and to call a number? If so, call that number directly.

I had that happen within a couple weeks of opening my BCE. I tried to purchase a new laptop and was declined. I called customer service who told me to call someone else (fraud department or something similar). I had to do a conference call with the Amex rep and my bank to verify information. Once done the rep had me try the purchase again while he was still on the phone. It worked and I have not had another issue since. I even got my 61 day increase without a problem (went from 10k to 19.3k).

As long as the information you gave them when you applied is accurate I would not worry about it.

That's wierd that they wouldn't verify someone's financial information before extending them credit if the bank was that worried about it.

They want to earn more in interest revenue, but at the same time, they don't want to have anything to do with the risk that comes along with it.

Similar to an example LTL gave in another thread, it's like the risk department and finance department both having their respective priorities to deal with. One wants to maximize revenue. The other wants to reduce as much risk as possible.

Historically, Amex has always treat their PIF clientele "better". The ED series is sorta like a new direction for them because they are trying to encourage people to leave balances.

FRs isnt the end of the world either. Amex just wants to make sure you have the means to pay back what you owe. So if you do have the means, and don't mind proving it, then by all means go ahead and do whatever you want. It's just a slight inconvenience while the review is ongoing.

I should know this better than anyone.

I had a $5,000 CL on my BSP for 6 yrs before I brought my balance down to under $1,000 and was offered an auto-CLI to $7,000, Then 2mos later was approved for a $5,000 CLI on top of that to $12,000.

I'm sorry dude but that totally sounds like an FR, Something you did spooked them real bad if they're doing it this soon..

I am not sure what to tell you. I got my new AMEX BCP late last month. I am about to complete one full cycle. I had not done balance transfer (I never did on any card in past). So far I had used about $1,400 and paid in three installments. My credit limit is $20,000. I could have kept the balance till my due date next month, but I am in that "impress me" kind of 61 days period. My goal is to get maximum possible CLI after 61 days. My card is functional. The largest purchase was $275 - a membership dues to the professional body I belong to.

My card is functional at the moment without any issue. At the closing of my statement, I may carry a little balance of say $100-$150 which I would pay after AMEX does report to all CBs.

Yeah, looks like you've been FR'd. That's the same exact message i saw when i was FR'd a couple of months ago. I was a bit irritated at frist, because i was out of the country at the time and didn't feel like contacting them about the accounts BUT i can assure you that it will be a very pleasant experience depending on the attitude of your account manager. The manager assigned to my account was VERY helpful after i explained my situation to her. I was given assurance that my account wasn't going to be closed and they merely just want to verify my income. Just comply, even if the information you stated on your application is different from your actual income, they'll work with you. It MIGHT also help if you pay off ALL outstanding debt with them before replying back to their request (That's what i did. Paid off all my accounts so they know i'm not bluffing and i actually have the money regardless of what my last years income may say). All in all, comply. DO NOT RESIST or seem unpleasant. Your attitude will be one of the keys to the faith of your cards.

The famous Amex Financial Review. If you spend erratically, sleep on your card, throw it around or even LOOK AT IT! You'll some red lettering in your account "sometime" around "whenever", instructing you that you're committed great atrocities against the throne (Amex). And they'll need you to present your case.
