Have Hhonors Amex but got rejected by CITI

I've got a Hhonors Amex, which I have had for one month. I applied for the CITI hhonors card a couple of days ago and got an email today saying that I've been rejected. The reason being: too few satisfactory credit references were recorded on your credit bureau report.

I didn't pull my score prior to applying for this figuring that I'll get the CITI since I got the Amex. I'm really bummed now. I suppose I should have waited for my Amex to age a bit? My other card is a 7 month old BoA. Is there a back door number I can use?

You have no other revolving credit on your reports? Even closed cards?

If your Amex is that recent is probably isn't reporting yet.

You might wait until the Amex is reporting on all 3 CRAs before trying to apply for Citi.

the Citi HHonors card is very hard to get with less than a 1yr history - I think that's considered one of Citi's better cards. Wait until your history is over a year and then reapply?

Agree 100%.

The Amex HHonors card is generally much easier to get than the Citi HHonors card.

Wondering why you want two different HHonors cards, though.

Hard to get is right! I called the Account Status backdoor number and got this rep who kept telling me the same thing. Apparently I need EIGHT credit references in good standing. Holy crap. So people who are selective in the cards they apply cannot get this card.

That might well mean 8 clean accounts, open or closed, including mortgages, car loans, and so forth. With your very short history, you wouldn't have that, but many people who've have credit for 5-10 easily might. Just guessing, though.

After reading previous board messages, I was skeptical for approval on the Citi Hilton Honors Visa Signature Card. I had applied and was approved for a Citi AT&T Universal Rewards Platinum MC, a few months earlier. During the application I noticed "if you don't qualify for this card, you will be considered for the gold card". Well I decided to go ahead and apply, and was approved the next day for the Citi Hilton Honors Visa Signature Card, with 9K limit, 2.9% APR and no annual fee. Recently I received my VIP membership and benefits literature. I have used the card for some balance transfers and paid them it off.

did a product change from my dp rewards to the plat hh visa, apr is a little higher than my dpr was. really got it because the rewards program seemed more useful than ty points.

funny thing is though i asked for the visa sig, told it was coming. plat visa showed up. rewards struture seemd the same and i wouldn't have to worry about it not reporting the cl so i just kept the plat.

Well I don't even know how I can ask for a recon if that telephone representative insists I can't apply for it without 8 credit references in good standing. I suppose I can try calling and ask to speak someone who can recon or write?
