Keep giving PNC free money or close my oldest CC, which i don't use and haven't for a year??

I have a PNC secured card w/ a whopping 250$ limit. Being that it's a secured card, these punks charge me 3$ a month. I'm sick of GIVING these greedy bankers 36$ a year for a WORTHLESS cc. I want to close it but it's one of my oldest cards, almost 9 years. When I called PNC to inquire if they could turn it into an unsecured card w/ a real limit, they said i'd have to reapply altogether. What to do, what to do. Any ideas y'all?!?!?

Put it this way.. in 7 years will you have a solid AAoA if you didn't have this card on your CR. If the answer is yes, feel free to close. It's not like $250 is affecting your utilization, lol.

If you close it it will still report as an account in in good standing for 10 years. It shouldn't cause you any problems in credit score unless you max your cards out.

Since it's just one of your oldest cards, it should be okay and it will remain on your history for awhile even after closure. What other cards do you have? If you don't use it and they charge a fee, then I would just cancel it. $36 per year can be spent elsewhere

I agree cancel it. I will axing my td bank useless reward card. Secured. 500.AF 29 per year. But checking and saving has maintenance fees if not strict 1500. It's my oldest. But my second oldest is only a week later. I'm closing this puppy. Regardless. Free 500 back in hand. In fact. I will go today and bring my ax with me.

One of the biggest misperceptions going around is that closing your oldest CC will somehow slaughter your score. It won't. The CC will remain on your CRs for ~10 years. With the CL, I doubt your UTIL would be adversely affected. Close it and walk away.

Tell PNC to go pound sand and to stick that boat anchor card where the sun don't shine... Even BOA behaves better with their secured cards. If you had to (which I doubt at this point, $99 could buy a $500 limit with BOA. Yes there's an AF but you would have graduated by now)
