yeah - the negotiating new accounts thing is a pain. chase changed my regular +1 student card over to a freedom visa signature (after much cajoling, i'm waiting for the card in the mail right now).

speaking of which, how long does it take to get those cards in the mail anyway from chase? are they slow or fast? they processed the change on the 3rd and i still haven't gotten it yet. i know we had the long weekend of the fourth and they said 5-7 business days, but does it really take that long?

So, I have a Chase not-so-Platinum Visa ($300) limit and perfect payment history of PIF since December. I only applied for it because I thought it would be an easier card to get than any other. I'd like to product change it to a Regal Cinemas Mastercard because I go to the movies all the time. Multiple times a week. I am addicted to movies. Would they allow this change? I was also thinking of asking for a CLI at the same time.

I could be wrong, but I believe Chase will only let you change from a non-specialized Chase card to another non-specialized Chase card.

For instance, you could switch your Platinum to a Freedom card or Perfect card, but not from a Chase 7-11 to a Chase Platinum.

You might try calling and asking them also just to be sure.

I wanted to change my Sony visa, because I heard you guys talking here about the Freedom Plus card and I thought I could use the rewards for alot more. (Plus I was scared Chase would shoot me down )

I called and explained that I would really like this Freedom card, etc and she took my application, approved me and asked if I wanted to add my 3k from my Sony card to my Freedom and close it.

I did and all is well now. I will still shop for Sony products, but there's so much more I can get cash back on now, so it's great for me. Plus I should get the perks for it being a new account and not just a product change. (I lost out on the 50 credit with BoA when I did that)

Maybe explain like I did that you are wanting a different card for different reasons and see what they can work out. And, oh yeah, it cost me a hard, since I actually applied for the new card.

That would probably work, but either way I will have a new account on my CR. If I switch to a freedom or something like that, they will give me the history on the new account, but close the old account. Since I have had the Platinum Visa for less than a year, would it be adviseable to close the account. I would think it give me a hit for the next 10 years for having a "new" account on my CR until it finally fell off. In this scenario, I would think doing a switch or apping for a new card in December or January would be the best thing to do. Am I wrong on this?

Message Edited by heirophant on 07-15-2008 01:53 PM

well, even though it *does* have the reporting issues (which I hope it doesn't), I am looking for the . also, having just turned 21 and still being a student, having a visa signature card of your own is a bit of a personal pride thing, since it's usually reserved for adults with significantly higher incomes

i also have plenty of tradelines that are not visa signature or world MC, so my util won't be terribly adversely affected. i'm paying my balances down very soon anyway.
