@Anonymous wrote:

I've had our AMEX gold card with no pre-set spending limit up to about $125,000 before. AMEX told me that your spending limit for the current month is one and a half times what you spent last month/ or on average. On the first month I got the card years ago they did shut down the account until I sent over a copy of my drivers license, proof of income / tax return / business documents / etc and then the card was back on within a few days. They will call you once in a while and ask for a payment, not sure why because everytime they have ever called requesting a payment my balance was always low.... but they have never called and ask for a payment when the balance was up near $75k+. One trick I learned with the card was if you have a big purchase and arent sure if they will approve the transaction, split it into 2 different transaction and have the store/merchant run them back to back and they will always go through.... this will save you from having to call them everytime to warn them about a big purchase. I have been very satisfied with AMEX and would suggest anybody who needs major purchasing power to have an AMEX in their wallet. They keep bugging me about switching to the Platinum card they have but it wont offer me many additional benefits so theres no point in paying the outragious $450 annual fee when the gold card is only $175 i think. I dont see why people have 5-6 different AMEX cards, they must like throwing money away on annual fees. I did used to have a amex blue card with a $25k limit (no annual fee) but when I started using the amex gold card and racking up $100k+ in monthly charges they lowered the limit on the amex blue card to $500, yes I did say five hundred dollars! So I had them just close that account. So beware of them lowering other credit limits because of using another card.

I just applied and received my new Citi Bank Double Cash back card in the mail this week so I will probably start using that for most of my purchaes so I earn the 2% cash back. On the Amex gold when I spent $1 million dollars the 1,000,000 points would only be worth $5,000 statement credit, but with the citi bank double cash I would have earned $20,000 cash back on that same $1 million dollars in purchases. Even if you use the amex points for a gift card, it takes 60,000 points to get a $500 gift card, but I would get $1,200 cash for spending the same $60,000 it took me to earn the 60,000 points with amex. Another added bonus, the citi double cash has to annual fee!

Right, but just another example that the point of the MR program is not to use for statement credit, gift cards, merchandise, it's to transfer to travel partners. If that's not possible/desireable, then, as you have done, look for another card for rewards

When I applied for the Amex Delta Reserve card, I nearly fell out of my seat when she told me that my CL will be $25,000. Is there a maximum amount that personal revolving cards cannot exceed? What is your highest CL and which card is it? American Express Delta Reserve: $25,000.

Amex maxes at $25k for most users, beyond that takes a good bit of extra scrutiny. Many credit unions will go to $50k. There really isn't a max credit limit for a person but each lender determines what there maximum exposure to an individual is. Some places will say that you have to much available credit with other lenders but that isn't the norm, BOA is common with it though.

I couldn't possibly see a bank wanting to give more than $25,000 ( nor have I heard of too many people with higher than this ), what could you possibly buy with that much on a credit card? Car dealers won't let you charge a car on it, they don't want to pay that fee! If I were a bank, I would be willing to give a generous limit, but what if you lose your job. Sure you might make $100,000 now, but what if you have to accept a job for only $60,000, first thing you stop paying is the credit card.. its unsecured.

**EDIT** I forgot Banks don't think when they lend LOL, retract that comment about if I were a bank... that's like saying If I was a Senator I would...

I guess I couldn't really speak for every car dealer. I wonder if they would have offered a special deal either, why not just pass the savings off to you directly? I've seen a few used dealers put ads for allowing you to use your credit card, but most are shady dealers. I wonder what a chargeback would be like on that...

I was a little shocked when I saw the statement.

My highest current limit is $3000. My highest limit ever was $6000.

As to the car thing, I think my mom bought a car once using her credit card (well, she was going to pay cash but wanted the airline miles, lol).

Back in 2000 American Express listed on all Revolving Credit Cards $100k max... I would be surprised if they are not higher now... but as stated $25k seems to be the max for many people unless done by Amex... My father was at $25k on Platinum Optima and was declined CLI to $35k, but was able turn around and apply and instantly be approved for $10k or $15k (for get exact amount) on another Revolver... Over the years since 2000 he eventually had 6 total revolving cards with Amex totally $68k and 1 personal charge and 1 business charge (10k max ever charged on personal and $17k on business) of course then the credit crunch... lines drastically CLD.

Bank of America is $250k

Discover used to be $50k, I think they are $100k now as someone posted but they also seem to be saying these days that they won't go over $15k without something, not sure what.

Nordstrom is $50k but if you want to go above $15k you will most likely need to provide stuff.

Citi is $250k i think

Capital one is $25 or $30k I believe

Neiman Marcus when they use to underwrite themselves they had no limit for "Some Customers" I mean they do sell a Private Plane and people have purchased them on Neiman Marcus card before... now it's with HSBC not sure if they can go million but I would assume Neiman Marcus would not want to loose those customers by selling the credit devision to HSBC.

I have heard as high as $28k on Macy's Store but not sure what max limit is, hard to spend 10k in Macy's unless buying furniture or vacation packages I think!

Started w/10K, maxed it out 3 times in 5mnths and paid it in full; inquired one day about a higher limit and was told it would be a hard pull. I declined. Logged on to my accounts a week later and my CL was 35K.

$21,800 AmEx BCP.

Incidentally I plan on buying a used Jeep in the next few days here with my tax refund. I wonder if I'll be able to use my AmEx. If not the other card that'll work is my $14k USAA World MC but USAA's cash rewards structure is craptastic so I'd prefer the AmEx.

I know that Bank of America can issue cards up to $250,000. That might be the cap. I think Discover caps at $100,000.

I believe Discover card caps at the 14-16K range per account.
