Cap One Venture Card-Gaining Popularity?

Is it my imagination, or is the Venture Card starting to pick up steam? I've noticed a lot of ppl. P-C'ing and getting approved and wanting to apply for it lately. I just got the QS-Visa Sig back on Labor Day this year and it was a big debate for me between that and/or the Venture Card. I'm not doing much if any travel now, but will be by next Spring and am thinking Venture could come in handy, plus they seem to be giving out VERY generous CL's. Therefore I might app for it in a few weeks when my QS is over 3 mos. old. And I'm not really interested in Barclay Arrival at this point in time Thoughts?

When it first came out, the press and the blogs were really pushing it, and it won travel card of the year awards from many places. Never did get why!

Now, apart from FTF, which other free cards can help with, it seems even more pointless now that there is the free Double Cash, which offers 2% with unrestricted redemption, and the Arrival, for very big spenders, offering the equivalent of 2.2% Yes, Venture has a lower AF than Arrival, but a much bigger one than Double Cash/Fidelity Amex. And for high CL, the Nasa card is almost as good, paying a lower rate on the first $2000 (losing $15 compared to double Cash) but much better than paying the Venture AF.

Besides, the people PCing to it on the forums are like 0.0005% of the population of the U.S. Regular people probably don't even know anything about a product change. I personally didn't know i could change products, request CLIs, lower APRs until i found this forum.

Never saw why so much hysteria over this card..

Maybe people were getting tired of how flimsy the QS is. The only reason mine are still usable is because I have better cards now. Otherwise i'd be on my second or third one.

I think venture card is decent (with sign up bonus) card from capital one, and you get 2x on every purchase and lower annual fee than say arrival+, so if you can't get those other cards from "prime" lenders, venture is an option.

I only pc'd quicksilver one into venture one to avoid paying annual fee.

Venture is very much one of their prime cards if apping from the outside.

even though it's capital one's top tier card, I think it's easier to get than cards from BoA or Chase and so on.

I don't know the relative difficutly compared to Citi DC or Fid Amex, but I don't think it's MUCH easier. And having redemptions restricted to travel for the extra 0.5% over QS, and paying $59 fee? Still don't think it is worth it!, except as a get-and-dump card for the first year bonus.

you can redeem those miles as cash back, though i'm not sure if they cut the rewards in half if redeem it as cash back like barclay does.

Yes, you get a lower rate for anythiing other than travel redemption (albeit that covers a lot) hence why I view it as restricted. With 2% everywhere cards offering unrestricted redemption, I don't think this card really has a place.
