Interesting Information.. Wonder if more people will be grabbing the SPG amex with the juicy 35k signup and marriott for that matter while they are hot.. Especially the SPG as those points are worth alot if not devalued which they shouldn't be anytime in the near future since deal fell through with marriott. Probably a good thing for SPG holders!

Well, it appears they ARE still buying bought out, just not by Marriott. That said, I'd expect the SPG program to remain unchanged for awhile still.

Yes being bought out, but not by another hotel chain which is good for the rewards program most likely as they are among the most valuable as I am sure you are aware. Might have to pick up this card now to float my tax bill, think it might be worth it on bonus and hit to Exp, of course would grab PRG at same time .. I didn't need to see this today lol

I couldn't care less who buys Starwood, just don't mess with (1) my lifetime Plat status, and (2) the SPG program. For now, reallocate all non-general spend to my SPG card!

Really wish I could app for the 35K bonus!

It is my goal.. Haven't applied yet . those two are just worth around ummm 2k.. So it is very tempting is all. Done well so far approaching 4 months soon. I might make it a year, you never know

LOL...Hey, when it comes to my checkbook, all bets are off!

Jokes aside, this offers some sembalance of hope for the following:

1. Starwoods and SPG employess are really good people who work extremely hard to ensure their Elite guests needs are met. I don't want to see any of them become victims of "Corp synergy." Over the years, some of them I'd call friends, who have gone out of their way to ensure my stay is "exactly" as I prefer. I would never experience this with Marriott.

2. Amex and SPG - for me, the best general spend card of them all. Let's leave this undisturbed. Now, with no-FTF, it's my favorite card.

3. No longer have to worry about the tons of SPG points being devalued by the Marriott conversion.

At least, for now. Anything can happen, still. I'm awfully tempted to app for the personal SPG. Maybe, it's been long enough since I've had my personal one to skirt under the lifetime thing.

*Edited* CC - You should app! No gardening is worth passing up 35K bonus, especially if the program isn't going to be changed.

Not to derail the thread, but like we were talking about yesterday, you have to have a balance between going for every enticing offer vs guarding your overall credit. I don't know CreditCuriousity's entire situation, but I do know he added a lot of accounts last year, and most profiles can only take so much. Looking at the bigger picture, it's probably better to garden, but I tend to be conservative with apps. I understand your position of "but you'll miss out on the offer!", but there's more to it than just going after every offer, at least IMO.

If you already have flawless credit and a thick profile then maybe you lean more towards "go for any offer that you want", but for people with a ton of new accounts and stuff, that isn't always the best plan.

I am way ahead of you lol! I have had little reason to go one of their hotels but they basically made it a guarantee I will go spend more money at Hilton and if there is no reasonable rates then Marriott.

Money's green, why would it matter if Starwoods is owned by the Chinese? Or, even African, Middle Easter, European, or Martian? So long as they leave the current management and employees in place.

I mean, not as if there's National Security involved.

It's the Chinese... Personally I would never trust them with security. Same reason why I would never buy a device that is made by a chinese company ( The company that is chinese )
