This is a "cute" story, but it's a good primer for those new to the wonders of credit cards and the trap/risk.

My words to college kids and those starting out in the credit world: Credit can be your best friend if you treat it with care. It's that simple!

I enjoyed reading this. That nagging thought about the relationship with credit cards I always have is Dave Ramsey’s advice to cut them up and use only cash “cash is king”. That’s the only advice from him I feel is not realistic but I understand why some people need to look into drastic measures such as that. Unfortunately, we can’t just give up using credit cards if we want to make the best out of our credit which we need for EVERYTHING these days. We just need to work hard on using them wisely to our benefit.

I work in a business that relies solely on the use of credit cards and turn people down too often than not who think unfortunately due to Ramsey that "cash is STILL king".

Ah, thank you for confirming that! It probably used to be, but not anymore. A short while ago I wasn’t able to rent a car with a debit card, instead they wanted a credit card to be on file. I didn’t and still don’t have any because they were all closed. Might I mention they said: because credit card issuers do a better check on people than banks do for a checking account? He meant—I’m assuming—that ‘your credit worthiness matters even when you’re willing to pay cash’.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: DR is, and thinks like, a very wealthy dude with lots of money and need NO CREDIT (I've even heard him call credit "Evil" and brag about his ZERO credit rating). He's right in saying "Cash is king", but a great credit rating (that is, unless you have millions in cash saved as does DR) is at least a "Royal". I recommend you shut DR out of your live(s) IMMEDIATELY and start listening to Clark Howard, who believes "cash is king" and also in responsible credit management.
