Equifax Breach Settlement Payouts

Hello All,

It looks like Equifax is making settlement payouts for its data breach. I received mine today of $2k+.. Honestly, I was only expecting about $50 even though I submitted a claim. Anyone else received theirs?

ETA: My email is the similar to the email shown in this article. I just activated the virtual card and purchased a $10 gift card on Amazon. It's real.

Did you file just the regular claim or the more detailed that seems like a lot but congrats nice early Christmas present 😊

I thought I filed a claim but I haven't gotten anything but you can apply for the extension it states but I can't remember if I did or not 😞

I believed I filed a more detailed claim a prob few months after being notified of the breach. Then, I totally forgot about it until probably late 2020 or early 2021. I checked claim status (found an old email) and there was absolutely no updates. In October 2022, I received an email stating "it" was finalized and asked how did I want to receive my settlement. I'm still thinking the payout is probably no more than $50 and...well, you know the rest. IMO, I would definitely apply for an extension especially since we now know it's legit...Good Luck!!

I was never affected by the breach, probably because my credit was so bad in 2017 that my scores were all in the 500 range at the time.🤣

Wow quite the settlement you got. Must of been impacted significantly and assume provided paperwork of how it impacted you beyond the 5-40$ others are reporting getting. I have yet to hear anything and was one of first people to file a claim within the first few days at least with that said I have moved since and likely got "lost". Really the only one that got rich off this was the lawyers although 2k+ settlement is impressive especially if not required to provide any documents as sounds like you were unsure., but think you went it to itemized damages of time etc if I recall how the claim settlement was stated.

Hey! Definitely a pleasant surprise.

I have to correct my dates, though. It seems I was first notified and submitted a claim in 2019. TBH, I don't know how they came up with the $$ amount I was rewarded. Below is screenshots of the initial email I received. My claim was just for reimbursement of credit monitoring services I'd paid for up to that time (appx 6 months @ $100/mth with "receipts"). Maybe they added a little extra for "pain and suffering".

I agree that the lawyers probably got a really big payday! Look at the proposed settlement amount.

Just as @Jnbmom stated, there is an extended claim period. Here is a portion of the final Court Approved Legal Notice that was emailed to me April 2020:

Don’t forget, if your personal information was impacted in the 2017 Equifax data breach, and you have a problem with identity theft or fraud because of the breach within the next four years, you may be eligible for additional Settlement benefits. Claims for benefits during the “Extended Claims Period” must be made by January 22, 2024, at www.EquifaxBreachSettlement.com. When the Settlement becomes effective after all appeals are resolved, you also may be eligible for free identity restoration services to help you remedy the effects of identity theft and fraud.

I did have a problem directly related to the breach (information was used to open fraudulent accounts), and I still only got 6.51.
Still 6.51 more than I thought I'd get.

I received a check for $5.41. left it on kitchen table to deposit later and dogs got to it and tore it apart. Easy come easy go.

Nice - I just got a check in the mail today for $477.39

It's payable from "Equifax Breach Settlement Fund". When i first filled out all the stuff back then it estimated my amount around $250, and I remember they sent another notice a couple months ago asking me to re-verify, but I was not about to shuffle all that again so I just let it go. No other communications and then today the check was in the mail. They must have used the address on my credit report because I was in a different state when all this happened. Keep your eyes out..checks are going out

Same here I've received nothing and mine says under review still. My biggest issue is that I have is there not protecting us like they say the restoration is simple deleting my credit report and I haven't had a score in months then one pops up and then I don't have one again. I'm unscoreable. And I have 9 felony records on my report that's not me. But they can't remove it if you ask me all their doing is cleaning up my proof that I was even data breeched and my
