They did payout after I called, but they wouldn't give me the promised venture miles, only statement credit.

I have never received any Cap One offer payout. I tried about 5 or 6 offers when I first got my card several years ago. Never got the money and I just gave up trying.

Still waiting on a $20 Huntington Voice offer payout. It's been almost 8 weeks, but I'm not holding my breath.

AmEx offers get paid out very fast. Love AmEx.

I tried an offer like that from Capital One the other day for Qdoba and it worked pretty quickly, but the ones you click through for seem to be a gamble.

Not a big fan of legal action but in this case, based on my experience it's warranted.

When I use this program with Ebay , there's no problem. I get the cash back reward in 1-2 weeks.

When using with Walmart, Chewy - nothing, zilch.

So far when calling into Capital One, I've been told:

- "You need to contact the merchant"

I shut that down by stating "Capital One is offering the program, not the merchant".

- "You need to wait 56 days" then:

- "You need to wait 90" days

We'll see what happens on day 91.

I'm a fan of legal action.

When a company is not following the law, the remedy is that they get sued, it costs them money, and they fix the problem.

Capital One has been sued at least three times now, and in one case they owed me almsot $800 because I was involved in their data breach when they put my personal information into Amazon Web Services, instead of controlling their own server infrastructure.

They still brag that they use AWS instead of a real server infrastructure that they control, so when you do that, you can't be sure of anything, like that time that Microsoft was putting a proprietary system service you couldn't see into Red Hat Enterprise Linux when you hosted it in Azure Cloud.

Then that proprietary hidden system service could see anything you were doing in your VM, and on top of that, it was involved in a data breach because it was buggy.

The whole point of remote hosting is it's cheaper. Anyone who watched "Chernobyl" understands the three words "because it's cheaper", after Valery Legasov testified that the reactor meltdown happened because they used design shortcuts in their reactor "because it's cheaper" than designing one without horrible safety flaws.

When you are doing something that should be secure, but you don't "because it's cheaper", you deserve liability for what happens next. And obviously even the lawsuit wasn't enough because they're still hosting on AWS.

I think this link is what is being referred

https://www.huntress.com/threat-library/data-breach/capital-one-data-breach

Article refers to the tipster as an "effical hacker" some one needs to explain that term to me.

Misconfigured offine storage has been the reason for more than one data breach. If you search on the hackers name you will get the rest of the story.

What does it take for Capital One customers to vote with their feet and close their accounts?
I did so years ago have not regretted the decision. Nor will I ever do business with them again. I have no confidence in this bank to do what is right.

Well, like it or not, Capital One is big and it's only getting bigger. One reason is that they'll deal with people who have a hard time getting access to significant credit at other institutions.

Three of my four larger credit limits are at Capital One. If I quit doing business with Capital One, I would lose about 56% of my total available credit, even though I also have cards at American Express, Chase, Discover, and Wells Fargo.

And even after that security breach, I did come back to them because fairly soon after, they pretty much walked off my bankruptcy like it was not a big deal and extended me credit again, when the other options were things like Mission Lane, Milestone, First Progress, and one that wanted to put a lien on my car title. And so they're not THAT bad.

I hope Capital One Shopping pays out on offers. You don't have to use a Capital One credit card for that. They offered me a $100 shopping rewards on a hotel booking I was going to make through Priceline anyway, so I clicked through, activated, read the fine print, checked out, and used the Priceline Rewards Visa.

Fingers crossed.

I just had my Capital One Shopping update. It shows a pending Rewards payout of $100 for the hotel booking, but nothing from my spend $25 get $5 on Amazon yet.

Of course, if they don't pay out on something, I'd rather it be the Amazon offer.

I'll keep the Capital One Shopping extension.

Also, they said that having other price checking extensions installed invalidates Capital One shopping offers. I don't know if that includes Keepa.

I keep Keepa installed because it monitors a trailing history of Amazon prices for the item you're looking at. There's nothing that makes me madder than paying a bunch for something on Amazon then finding out it goes on steep discounts all the time and now I'm out some money, so if it looks like prices drop a lot, I'll wait if I don't need the item right away.

I know back when I had Cap1 cards I did a few offers and never got paid either but I eventually dropped them completely...of course now I have a Discover card...oh well. Seems so far at least I'm still getting Disco customer service so that's nice.
