Hello All,

I am a new user recently rebuilding my credit (4 or 5 months). I finally got my credit cleaned up as much as possible and just applied and approved for two credit cards. I have had none for several years and figured it was time for credit rebuilding purpouses. The simulator says my score would increasr from 627 to 652. Question is how long will it take for this to happen? There is no timeline that I have seen on the simulator to tell me if this would be immediate or 1 year from now. I am currently waiting for the cards to come in the mail so there has been no transactions yet. Any feedback on a timeframe of getting my score over the 650 mark would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Once the cards report you should see an increase on your credit score, how much we can't exactly say with certainty. If you subscribe to myfico make sure you have the alerts turned on and that way you'll know when it happens. Keep your balances under 30%

Thanks, I was hoping I would see some immediate change. The simulator, though i understand is just a guide, it is still unclear on the timeframe for what it's suggesting. I understand its a slow process but I'm still trying to fast track as much as I can.

Congrats! Which 2 cards did you get approved for? As for the credit score increase, it should start going up once the cards start reporting--as long as you pay on time and keep your utilization low your scores will continue to rise. I can't give a specific time frame though.

Thanks! I got a Chase Freedom 6K & Discover 500. It was really disturbing trying to figure out which ones I would be approved for without getting denied. My choices were through suggestions on Credit Karma. It was a helpful tool at first but then the scores were quite deceiving. I'm glad I signed up here but wish the reports were more frequent. Every quarter seems forever away. lol

Discover and BOA have them too, but they are more of a marketing tool than actual preapprovals, just like Credit Karma's is just marketing.

Congrats on the approvals! You won't see any score changes until the accounts actually report to the credit bureau. I opened both the Chase Freedom and Discover in August. I applied for Discover on Aug. 2ND and the new account reported on the 19th. I applied for Chase on Aug. 6th. It didn't report until Aug. 27th. I am sure every account is different but you should plan on it taking a few weeks before you see any change. Be glad you aren't waiting for American Express, it took them 2 months and 8 days to report my new account.

I think you could be at about 650 in about 6 months to a year after those credit cards are reporting to the credit bureaus. In 2 years you could be near 700 or above. As long as your never late, keep balances low and only open credit accounts as needed. You will see faster progress going from the 600's into the 700's..When your in the 700's and aiming for 800's the results are less and proven to gain more points over time.
