Is the EXPERIAN Free FICO Score really a FAKO or Is It Really a FICO?

Hi.... Out of curiosity, does anyone know if the free FICO score on the EXPERIAN website is really a FAKO and not a FICO? It does say FICO, but I am not sure. The reason I have my doubt, is because I have a thin credit report. With just one revolving credit card and one installment loan, both less than four months old. And knowing that it takes six months to get a FICO score to report with respect to my case. So I am just wondering.

Thank you, TheCreditGame. Perhaps EXPERIAN should not post it as a FICO, but rather the post as VANTAGE 3.0. It's kind of misleading.

I believe their premium paid service is a legit fico, but again you said free

Well mine is my real FICO 8.. I used Experian.com and I only use the free service.

It's exactly the same as my paid Fico 8 here on My Fico..

Strange...

It is real FICO 8 on the free service. Always matches my MyFICO paid, too.

I have never heard of a non-FICO score (VS 3.0) using the term "FICO" along side it. Can you provide a screen shot of what exactly you're seeing?

The FICO 8 I get from Experian is absolutely real. It updates once a day, and it updates a day or two before MyFICO catches up to it.

I believe that Experian gives you FICO scores, and TransUnion gives you VantageScores. I'm not sure about Equifax.

EQ gives their own internal score, the free subscription score on EX is definitely FICO8, same score as premium but it only updates monthly.

We'll all be better able to respond to the OP if he shows us a screenshot (great suggestion by BBS) or gives us a link to the specific Experian product he has in mind.

At least one Experian product uses Vantage:

OP is probably talking about Credit Works Basic, Ex is not going to provide VantageScore and stick the world FICO right next to it, plus the VantageScore product is not free. He also said it's off the Experian website which eliminates CCT (also not free) or creditscore.com.

Hey all, below is a screen shot of what the OP may be talking about. I got this from credit.com. The score provided is an EX VS 3.0 score, but you don't know that unless you click the question mark next to the score to expand the info related to that score. You'll notice off to the right on the same screen you see language mentioning an EX credit report and FICO score, but that's a link to pay money for a different product. I can see how this could be misleading to someone, seeing a score on a page and seeing EX FICO shown on the same screen. I get how the correlation between the two could happen. I'm not sure if this is the service the OP was using, but I thought it was a good example regardless to share.

Thanks BBS. It also goes to show why we can't really know what is going on until the OP gives us a link to the page where the specific tool is shown and names it.

Oldman made reasonable guesses but if you are right his assumption (that our OP must be going to www.experian.com) is mistaken.

Actually it is very common for a newcomer to the forums to claim that TransUnion is saying _____ when actually it is his some credit monitoring tool that draws on TU (Credit Karma, Wallet Hub, Discover credit card, etc.). Similar claims about what Experian says or Equifax says, when in fact it is a credit monitoring tool that draws on that bureau.

Maybe the OP will rematerialize and let us know more.
