Does anyone have any DP in terms of FICO 8 change when highest individual util drops across/over 2 thresholds, specifically from 95% to under 68.9%? My overall util would go from 27% to 24%. I have a couple of 0% intro rates right now and was carrying a 95% balance on one of them. I preparing to do a couple of apps and have paid downed the 95% card, now wondering what type of movement I might see in my FICO scores. I'm a crazy data tracker (I input data daily into a spreadsheet) and it appears I lost 8 (TU) and 10 (EX) points on my FICO 8 when the 95% util was reported (my overall util went from 30% to 38% at the same time; it didn't cross a threshold, but not sure if some of the change could be attributed to overall util change). MY EQ dropped 22, but I had a decrease in AAoA by 2 years (9y10m to 7y11m) around the same time due to old accounts falling off my report. I know you typically gain back any losses due to util once it decreases, but just wondering what people's experiences have been. Thanks!

What was your individual utilization before the 95% posted?

If it was zero and you’re now returning to zero, I would roughly expect the same points to come back, since it doesn’t appear you crossed any other thresholds then or now. (It doesn’t appear that you crossed an AAOA threshold.)

Nevertheless, for one to be able to even have a chance of predicting, we would need to know your scorecard. Clean and dirty are treated differently. Young and thin cards are magnified and the point loss/gain is therefore greater, whereas older and thicker files are just the opposite, the point loss/gain is less. New account scorecards also affect variables.

That’s why it’s always a good idea to give the following information at a bare minimum:

1.Clean/dirty?

2. total number of open and closed accounts on your credit report,

3. your AoOA, and

4. AoYA.

5. Utilization,

6. Whether you have you have an open or closed installment loan on your credit report.

Otherwise it’s difficult for members to make educated guesses.

I think you sort of answered your own question with the 8 and 10 point changes referenced in your post.

If Event X causes a score to drop Y points, reversing Event X will cause your score to gain Y points. There can always be other things going on with your report that can influence score changes of course, but if you were able to isolate it down to Event X like it seems you have your expectation can then be Y points.

So three points more than you think you lost? There must’ve been another factor in play or you lost them originally and didn’t realize it because something else covered them up.

In your original post you only mentioned the change from 95% to 68%, but in the post above you referenced 3% prior to 95%. Did you pull your scores at the point in time where the 3% utilization balance was reported? Seeing how your score changed from that point to 95% would let you know the total points on your profile from going to best to worst case scenario on an individual card. From there you'd then be able to look at the impact of crossing 2/5 thresholds for example.
