I am always hearing that closing credit cards hurts your FICO. I closed a credit card a couple of months ago even though it is the one I've had the longest thereby helping my average age of accounts a lot. When I got an alert today on MyFico it showed that the account has been closed. Also, my score jumped 16 points to 654! What could account for this? Is it the fact that it's a crappy card (Aspire?) I don't have any lates on any of my cards. The balance has been below $10 for the last 6 months so paying it off couldn't have been the boost.

Message Edited by madriley on 03-12-2008 11:11 AM
