topic My credit mix in Understanding FICO® Scoring

MyFICO said that my credit mix was bad for one bureau. I only have an auto loan and 2 CCs on there and many closed student loans. I guess the student loans make the mix look bad? They are not-yet-due loans.

I want to open 1-2 CCs soon. Is there something else I should be doing to get more points for the mix category? Mix seems to be holding my score back. Everything else is good for that bureau.

I'm sure you're not losing many points for that.

2. You already have 2 categories satisfied -- installment loans (the student loans and the auto loan) and credit cards.

3. I believe you would get rid of the "credit mix" flag by adding (a) a personal line of credit, such as an overdraft line of credit with a credit union, or (b) a "charge" card, which could mean a store card or an Amex charge card. But if I were you I would do neither.
