Closing old accounts in good standing is one of the most common mistakes people make. Closing a credit card is usually not a good idea from a FICO perspective, and will never serve to give you a short-term increase in your FICO score.

I have 19 cards, most have zero balance and are never used. Would my score increase if I cancelled them or is it better for my score if I have several in good standing?
