I haven't used the TU Quarterly Monitoring, but every three months you do get a new score and report. I'm uncertain as to whether it is automatic or if you have to pull every three months manually.

TU does offer a monitoring service via myFICO but it only monitors on a quarterly basis. I recommend subscribing to a credit monitoring service whereby you can pull your reports daily. Some past favorites included TrueCredit (until they did away with daily pulls) and CreditCheckTotal (until EX decided not to be a team player). I'd ask around for services others are using. Remember, ignore those scores from these other services. Those are not FICO scores and they are a terrible predictor of how your FICO score will or won't change.

EX no longer offers a FICO score to consumers. It is impossible to receive your EX FICO score, unless you are apping for a mortgage I guess. If you see a service advertising EX scores, you'll know to ignore all of those scores (EQ and TU included) as they are not FICO scores.

Does that quarterly monitoring thing from TU check pre-selected dates? Or do you get a score pulled and then get a report every three months thereafter?

TU Quarterly puts up a new report to view every 3 months. You don't have to "pull" it it is there.
