My husband paid all 4 of his cards(some were overlimit) to a zero balance and his score only increased 13 pts. One card closes today so he let a 1% balance report so we will see if his score increases further

Your husband's seem like a different case since he previously held such high balances with some cards having util of >100%.

A util of 0% is probably considered better than 100%+. Thus, the score increase.

1% balance on one card probably will increase his score further.

It will be interesting to see what happens in six days when your card reports a balance again.

Sure enough, when the balance on my AmEx reported this morning (bringing me back over a 1% total util), I got a Scorewatch alert that my fico score had changed. +28 points, right back to the 789 I had before I paid all the cards off. So, at least with EQ 08, it looks like zero util causes a pretty serious ding to your score.

This is invaluable info for me. I use my AmEX to shop at costco, but I've been paying it as soon as I charge this month to keep it reporting 0. Next month, I pay off my last credti card and your information indicates that it will be better to start letting the AmEX report when the other cards are gone. Thank you!
