Sign-In timeout too short

I love all the information and help available here in the community.

However the forum software is a bit limited compared to other Internet forums.

I'm getting used it though, and it works without too many bugs so far.

One thing that does drive me bonkers is how fast you are auto-logged-out of the community, and it's a bit of a p_i_t_a to log back in, because you lose your place place of where you were previously.

If there is a way to change the timeout, I couldn't find it.

If there is no setting for that, I'd like to formally request for the timeout to be extended to 24 hours.

There's no setting for it, and unfortunately allowing users to remain logged in with no activity for 24+ hours might have been a thing once upon a time here. Lately, it seems if you're inactive for not all that long, (60 to 90 minutes?), you're logged out.

It's good for your log in counter though 😁

Even if it were 12 or even 8 hours, that would be immensely better than the current timeout.

It also wouldn't be so bad if, when you do sign in, it didn't boot you out of the community, and if you're in the middle of reading/replying to a topic, it would keep you in the same spot after login.

I think the biggest reason for the ultra fast timeout is so they can keep pushing their paid products, since that's the page it takes you to upon sign-in if you are using the "free" account.

Personally I'm willing to tolerate some marketing in exchange for the free community, but doing it so often is a bit crass IMHO.

As for the sign-in statistics and what not, it's not something that interests me. I know you said that in jest, but personally I'd give up all that stuff just to be able not to have to sign so often.

I must agree. The forum content is great, but the login process and the inability to remain logged in are really maddening.
