"Less is More" when quoting posts

I just scrolled through three consecutive board replies, each of which quoted the full original post content.

Can the mods find a way to mentor members into quoting only the text most pertinent to a reply?

It's easy, simply highlight the portion of the quote not relevant to a response and delete it before you post (or before you post an edit).

Back when we had moderator powers we could go in and edit posts to remove extraneous quoted content but we can no longer do this. It's a big issue for readability, even more so on mobile devices where screen sizes are small.

This feels like trying to convince people not to hit "reply all" on emails, unfortunately I'm not sure there's a way to train people to selectively quote.....
