I've read online that you can "request to merge inquiries into an account." Anyone successful with this? I recently bought a house and have quite a few inquiries I'd like to get rid of.

Your time period is too wide for FICO to see these as 1 inq-

The data IS accurate- and shoulld be left alone,

INQ's don't have a very big affect on your score and only for 1 year.

i did lending tree when i was shopping for a car loan. There are six total (including the one from the car dealership that i ended up going with instead) within 30 days exactly. they all count individually and they are all hurting tremendously. i went from a 658 down to a 585 with the inquiries and the new loan. 6 months later i'm back up to where i was but it was a HUGE score drop with those inquiries.

The inqs really are combined for scoring purposes since they're within the time frame, even though they do display. The drop was probably a combination of inq + new account + maxed-out loan, since it reports at 100% when it first shows up. I had a huge hit when my auto loan posted, also, with a negative comment about high util on installment loans.

How did the inqs divide up? --how many on EQ, how many on TU, how many on EX. And just to clarify, this score is a FICO score from this site, not one from the credit bureaus, right?

edit to add: The fact that your score has recovered makes me think that the inqs aren't being scored separately. Mine is coming back up, slowly, slowly...

Message Edited by haulingthescoreup on 06-08-2008 09:51 AM

Bu I think the OP means...when you apply for a mortgage within...say the 14 day period...you can have a lot of inquiries...but afterwards...if you apply for any other credit...ALL those inquiries show up...and you can get denied for too many inquiries...even though the all hit you as one impact...I was wondering the same...most of my inquiries this year are from mortgage inquiries...and there is a lot...makes it looked like I have applied for new credit a lot...so if they only hit you as one...why can't only one appear...

We've had members initially denied for too many inquiries for this reason. When they call and escalate to a supe (who knows how this works), it usually works out OK. One of the many reasons that it's so good to know your credit reports inside out!

Multiple inqs for a house rarely means that you're looking for multiple houses; same with cars. But if you have 10 inqs for CC's, it's doubtful that you're picking among the acceptances to find that one perfect deal.
