I think they're SUPPOSED to be soft pulls ... but I also think that companies make mistakes. When hubby had his clearance last checked, it showed as a hard pull on EX, and soft on the others (you better believe that the US Gov pulls all three!!). But as always, YMMV.

In fact, I'm pretty sure that Timothy posted a snippet of the rules on soft vs hard here about two weeks ago (maybe less). I'll go see if I can find it.

I applied for an adjunct teaching position at the local community college and part of the application had me sign a statement that the college will do a consumer check on me which may include a credit check and a background check. Please tell me that these checks are NOT hard pulls and merely soft pulls. Please... Thanks

When DH had his credit pulled for a security clearance, it was merely a soft pull, IIRC (was in the section that said "Inquiries seen only by you"). I wouldn't see a non-goverment/security clearance credit check as being "lighter" than a civvie credit check!

It really depends on the company doing the check. I had one done for employment at it was a hard pull on my TU credit report.

Ah. Well, hubby's was done about ... I guess around 6 years ago (??) ... it showed up on two reports as "soft" while it DID show up on one as a "hard" ... however, for whatever reason, when we checked that CR again later ('bout 2 weeks), it was gone.

I'm sorry for the confusion ... hubby had to refresh my memory!!! Nowadays, memory-wise, this old grey mare ain't what she used to be!

I had always heard credit checks done by employers were soft pulls... No experience to give, though.
