Somebody is using my info but nothing is on my credit report yet.

Hello everyone,

So I went to my mail box today and guess what I got ? A collection letter from SKO BRENNER AMERICAN INC on behalf of ProActive Solutions (the acne company) . I give the collection agency a call and advise them that I dont ever recall ordering from the company but of course they dont care. I told them it wasnt me and they asked how I wanted to pay. ERGH. So then I call ProActive. They ask me for my address and then say, "Mam, I dont have any history of you placing any orders with that address." So then I give them the order number that the collection agency gave me. That pulls up my name and an address in Fort Worth. I'm in San Antonio TX and dont know any one in Fort Worth , TX. So I ask how much money they have spent with the company and they say over $200. Its weird because the bill was in my name and the suspects address and the ship to address was someone elses name and differant address in Fort Worth. So then I ask them, " how did you get my actual address?" Well, they couldnt give me an explanation. They said they didnt even have my address on file. So I call the collection agency again to ask them where they got my address and they said ProActive gave it to them. I told them that proActive claims to not have record of my address in connection with the debt. So I'm lost now. What can I do to figure out whats going on? The collection is for an order placed in January so its not too long ago. I am worried and confused.

I would file a police report. This is helpful if anything begins to report, you can use the police report to dispute.

Another thing to look into is placing a "Fraud Alert" on your reports. That make it very difficult for people (and you) to use your identity. Extra steps need to be taken to prove who you say you are.

Next I would pull each of your reports to make sure that they are clean (well I'd pull before the fraud alert). Look also out for any address changes on those reports (pull directly from each CRA). And I would DV the CA. Also avoid calling them. Get everything in writing.

Edit to add.....I probably would subscribe to a monitoring service like TrueCredit so as to have the ability to pull your reports weekly/daily at a low monthly price.

I would conference call the CA and Proactive and have Proactive verify to the CA the mis-information that they received.
