Discouraged.

I loves these boards, but it can be overwhelming ... reading about everyone's struggles and they have much, much better credit than me.

I wish I could go back in time and kick myself.

Ugh.

4 collections.

4 accounts that went into CO status and are closed (and paid).

It's just too much.

Unfortunately, I thought I was doing the right thing and paid everything off before I got on the boards, otherwise I could have PFD.

Okay, I had my moment. Back to fixing things .........

Some do get discouraged and some even give up.

I wouldn't advise to give up, but I can understand getting discouraged.

It may help to take a break. Get away from the whole "credit" thing for a week or so.

I bet all of us wish we could go back in time. NEVER get discouraged - keep plugging away until you get what you want.

Send GW letters to the companies that show on your acount. Keep sending them every month until you catch the right person to fix it for you.

Don't get discouraged and don't give up. Don't you dare let them win.

Get focused and gear up to fight, hard. If you have some that are not playing by the rules, complain to the BBB, FTC or AG. I know you said you paid already, but are any of these reporting incorrectly, dates wrong, reaged, anything? Don't let them get away with any of that!

Yes, def. goodwill your arse off. Print them off in batches in advance and have them ready to drop off in the mail...over and over and over again. Try different addresses and names with each one if you have to.

Please don't get down on yourself. I only wish I had your problems. No on second thought I really don't need anymore than the 13 I already have, and I too still have 4 to pay off.

Oh well guess thats the price for being a mushroom about my credit for 15 yrs. It is a long hill to climb but you will make it and so will I. It will just take me a little longer

I felt exactly how you feel a year ago. I had bad credit, about the same number of baddies (which varied depending on C.R) and a judgement. I was at about 550 and am now in the 600's. My best score is 655 with Experian and my others are 608 and 601.

It's so easy to mess up our scores but it takes so much more work to fix them. It's like making money, it's harder to earn but so easy to spend. C.R. is hard to fix but easy to damage.

I walk around with the list of my baddies in my wallet with the dates each is supposed to fall off. Knowing that at some point those things will fall off encourages me that I'm on the right track. I've had over a year of zero lates and continue to pay my bills on time; even if it's a minimum payment to keep me on track, then a hefty payment the following month.

Also, keep the credit cards at home as most advise. It's easy to use it in your wallet but if it's at home you are less likely to fetch it unless the item you want is really needed; the impulse dies down by the time you get home to fetch the card. )

I understand how frustrating it can be, but do yourself a big favor and don't give up. It sometimes seems so slow on progress. But it will happen! Focus on the task result and focus even harder on where you want to be!

Honestly, I think the number and the types of baddies on my reports are worse than many on these boards. And I've come from the 400's to 2 scores in the 600's. Not great---but BIG improvement!

Perserverance!!!

Try 3 fed and 2 state tax liens, 2 judgements, 2 co's, and 19 lates. Clean for 20 months, but getting there...

I feel the same way, but look at the bright side... at least you didn't have to file BK7 like I did! I will be paying for that (literally) until 2015. Things will get better with time.

I feel your pain and I have my share of migraines. But reading the forums here has uplifted me on the days I am down and think that i can not do it. It will get better. Pace yourself and plan it all out. That is what I have done. My goal is try to pay off the each small bill off. One per month until all i have is the big balance cards (2) and Sallie Mae to pay off. It is a struggle especially being a single mom of one, but I focus on making it happen.

Treski I was there before as well. Last year I decide to fix things on my CR and after 6 months my score went up 100 points. Then by the seventh month things started to change CO were being added, collections and all I could think was all this for nothing. I sent out all kinds of letters and then I finally gave up. I got discouraged score in the mid 500. Here I am months later ready to start all over again and all I do is think to myself if I didn't let these few months go by without doing anything because I got discouraged imagine where I would be now. With the help with these wonderful forums and words of wisdom from people like Timothy, HappDays, llecs and many others you can't go wrong. Hang in there and go get em.

Thanks for all of the support. I saw a little bit of improvement after I originally posted this ... one OC deleted my two 30-day lates and actually started reporting to Experian (all good history), which they have never done before. Modest bump in score, but it would never have happened if I didn't take some action.

I'm pretty hopeless about Capital one and Discover. I had horrible lates with both of them and they eventually became charged-off and paid off. I just want the acccounts to be gone, but it looks like I'll have little luck.

It's only natural to be discouraged but try not to let this whole FICO thing get the best of you. We've all made mistakes and we're trying to learn from them and overcome them. It can be done. It just takes time and common sense management of your credit.

Remember that credit repair is a very longterm process. But it's not impossible to turn things around if you avoid making any fresh errors along the way that compound your problems. Be patient. Be focused on the goals you have in mind. And avoid the common mistakes other posters have warned us all about. By the way, this forum is a national treasure trove of good advice. I visit it regularly for insights and hot tips.

Accept the fact that you'll need at least 7 years to achieve a totally clean slate. But once it is cleaned of your past blemishes, you're in a whole new ballgame. In fact, the brunt of of the damage will start to fade in as little as one to two years--again, this is possible only if you don't give up and revert to bad habits. Hey, you can do this, my friend.

It seemed like forever waiting for my FICO score to crack the magic 700 barrier. It bounced up and down by 5 points for months. Always coming tantalizingly close to 699--only to fall back again.

Once I passed the 18 month mark on my eldest credit line, things started snowballing. I'd get unexpected FICO bumps sometimes twice a month. In just 6 months' time I picked up 48 points.

So, be tough. Be serenely patient. And never, ever, fall back on those bad habits and before you know it, in a year or two, you'll be inspiring others on these boards with your very own success story.
