So, I can't help but wonder if the state of the economy and huge rash of foreclosures has done to the average consumer credit score. I have to assume that it's lower than it used to be. Anybody know? Just curious.

I;ve read and have been told, that the scores need to be higher for today's economy. It used to be that 720 was a good score, but I understand that now it is higher than that.

Yes, I have been hearing the same as well. Like you now need 740-760 to qualify for the best rate on mortgages etc.

They used to say that the national average credit score was like 693 and that the average "borrower's" credit score was 723. I'd be shocked if these averages were still correct. I have a feeling the average credit score has gone down, while the credit scores required by lenders these days have gone up. That's going to create a big gap for approvals, no?

DuckHunter wrote:

I;ve read and have been told, that the scores need to be higher for today's economy. It used to be that 720 was a good score, but I understand that now it is higher than that.
