Please, please, please - Relevant thread titles - the benifits

Would you all be so kind as to put enough information in the title of your posts so that I know if I might have something to contribute to the discussion? It will save me lots of time. Now thast the boards are getting so busy ( a very good thing) many of us have insufficient time to read all the threads we might be able to contribute to. Hence the title is very important. With 40 active threads and 20 of them new, a title that is infomative would help, a title that tells me nothing about the content might well be ignored for lack of time.

And I can be as rude and blunt as I like about this because I am not a Moderator

Better titles gett better responses

I understand the dilemma, MV ... things are hopping around here and the volume has increased so much that many members must be selective about what they stop and take the time to read.

I do hate thinking that someone's issues may not get the attention they deserve, because of a vague post title.

With apologies to those who have used titles like this (and I've probably done the same in the past), these are not good titles:

If you have a question about a collection agency, put the CA name in your title. If you're looking for a CLI on a MegaBank Diamond-Encrusted Titanium Deluxe-O CC, then put its name in the title. (If it fits, lol.)

This is really not me being cranky; this is me seeing good posts go unanswered, because the people who have info for you never read your post.

One exception to the don't-use-vague-titles suggestion, and this one I always read:

Woo-Hoo!!!

I do like the expanded title suggestions. It's much easier to come up with our own titles when someone has given specific examples.

Yanno, I am going to play Devil's Advocate here.

I read everything in every blessed thread for a month. Ignored the thread titles, just read and read until I started looking at a bottle of tequila and a straw for relief. It gave me a good feeling for who was saying what, what was effective in terms of strategy in many areas and made me ask myself a whole lotta questions.

Like:

Who am I credit wise?

What outcome do I really want?

If a debt is mine and I acknowledge it, is it ethical to DV and PFD?

Is the San Andreas fault faulty enough that Midland will SOON get swallowed into the Pacific?

A month or two later, I'm reading by who posted to the thread, those pros, mods and contributors who share my world view.

Besides, I like to read.

And write.

atlast, I completely agree! I try really hard to read every post, too, although I also try not to be fired from my paying jobs.

The problem with non-specific posts is that most members aren't in this total absorption mode. They only have time to zip through the forums. They do read a lot --I can tell, just from seeing how many different posts they respond to. But if a member has a very specific question, there might be 3 or 4 other members with the answer, but they will never see the post without a good, targeted thread title.

I just took a quick look at the threads on General Credit, and those which have today's date go all the way to page 4. And today isn't over yet. As both a mod and a member, it kills me to see posts go unanswered due to the sheer volume of posts in general.

Like so many other things these days, if you want a response, you have to stand out in some way.

So it's fine to title your thread ???, but if you're really looking for some good useful info, I would strongly advise putting something in your title to catch the eye of the people who can help you.

I don't disagree with you at all. We're each here with different foci from one day to the next.

The mods have one h*ll of a job and DO a fabulous job answering questions clearly and concisely. My hat is off to you all. Like many others have said (and more will say); I just wish I'd found these fora at their inception.

I'm done reading each and every post and am solidly focused on a couple of really annoying topics that are fortunately (or unfortunately) current here. Now, I find that "credit building," "credit maintenance" and things like UTI and INQ are creeping into conversations OUTSIDE of this little box. Scary.

And I've made a couple of friends, a benefit that I hadn't considered when starting this journey.

I'm amazed at how many "credit legends" I had assimilated into my way of being before finding myFICO. More importantly, my eyes have been opened, I've made a commitment to fiscal responsibility and of teaching the hard learned lesson to my daughter.

To quote a rather famous man....."And that has made all the difference."

Perhaps I'm the odd one here, I actually read the topics with either a few replies or none at all. It might have something to do with me getting very informative and concise information from folks who took the time to be that lone responder in my own topics. I may not have "all" the time I did when I started here, but when I can I actually search those out. I wouldn't mind more "specific" titles, but to be very honest the only pet peeve I have are comments that are snide or snarky. I know some people are just that way, and perhaps they didn't get enough credit hugs, or hugs when they were little period, but this is a board about fico scores and credit, some creme de la creme, some just cream cheese on a stale bagel, and some pinching pennies for that sidewalk coffee - point is we've all been a "newbie" at some point, and that's what I remember.

I think a lot of people just come here a little nervous, because they're in a situation, most seem to catch-on and self-edit, some don't point is I keep an eye for all.

But all in all I agree, folks can be more specific in their titles, but if they're not it doesn't deter me (Braz) from responding, if I have helpful info to offer.
