Soft inquiries show on the reports as pulled directly from the CRA. You won't find soft inquiries on reports from third party providers like myFICO, TC, CCT and others.

Which report did you look at? Maybe the CU rep misspoke.

I signed up for a account with a credit union and I asked up front if they were going to pull my credit. The man assured me that it will only be a soft pull. But when I looked at my report it shows as inquiry and lists it with others as "inquiry's affecting my score". I thought soft pulls don't show on reports?

I called chase for credit limit increase.i asked the csr if he is gonna do a hardpull,he said no it will be a soft pull.but when i later check my report it was a hardpull.

So what you have to do is call the creditunion which did that hardpull on you and tell them to delete the inquire beacause they told they were gonna do a softpull but not a hard pull. if they don't delete that just write a letter to the three credit agencies and dispute that inquire.

EXP= 706 TRA=642 EQU=619

The CRAs could place a FA on the reports. They will often see the inquiry as an unauthorized attempt to apply using your info and place the FA out of an abundance of caution. Moreover, there are examples in here of complete TLs being closed by a lender (doesn't really apply here) because they will get notice of a FA by the CRAs.

Disputing inquiries is not a good idea in most circumstances. In this case I would let it ride. Utilities and the like I might try.

Agreed. And really, if you ask about 80% of the people in the forums, they'll tell you the reps/csr's rarely know what they are talking about when it comes to soft/hard inquiries. And my intentions are not to bash these folks. It's just that the companies rarely educate them as to whether they are soft/hard inquiries.
