I had a fine with a library that I just paid. I called the library today and they said that they had received my check and that it should be "automatically deleted" with Unique. Does anyone have a phone number to this ca? I can't seem to find it. I want to call and make sure everything has been taken care of.

Its on there but I've been on the phone with a supervisor (listed above) and it can be deleted. I just have to contact the library and have them call UNC to have it take off. She said otherwise it would have to be on there as a pif for 12 months and they would take it off for me.

That's a new one on me. I'm dealing with the same issue and the library told me to write a letter to all 3 CRAs and ask them to investigate and remove, and then it would fall off. This is the most frustrating situation cause it seems everyone you talk to has a different story. Let me know what happens! Good luck.

Yea I've had a lot of people tell me that unc is a horrible ca to work with. Call that number above (its sort of a backdoor number from what i can tell) The lady I talked with was extremely nice. How long ago was the collections for? Mine is fairly new (less than 60 days) that may be the difference on our situations.

Message Edited by AlishaR on 01-02-2008 10:48 AM

Mine was originally reported in November of 2006. The problem is I didn't know about it until I looked at my credit report in 2007 and noticed I had been sent to collection. I never got any notice because the had an old address. I paid it off in November of 2007. Maybe it's too old.

Message Edited by jj15 on 01-02-2008 11:43 AM

Just leave it alone now.. unless the original debtor will call UNC to have it deleted, there's nothing you can do. UNC will not delete. HOWEVER, if you no other collections with them (and you may want to call and make sure you are @ 0 balance) they will delete it in 12 months from the date of payment. I just got off the phone with the library, they will not have it deleted only marked as paid so now its going to be on there until 1/2009. All well, at least its not 7 years.

My husband has a collection with UNC so now I'm digging out this old post too!

He has a $77 library fee that is now a collection on his credit report with UNC. I am going to send a PFD letter to UNC. However, two questions:

1) Has anyone had PFD success with UNC?

2) Is there any reason I shouldn't email a PFD letter?

UPDATE to my last post:

I contacted the library that had sent me to collections originally. Since the debt was paid off, I felt that I could appeal the good senses of the library people. Anyway, I had lots of communication with the library via email, originally with the staff manager, who eventually escalated the problem up to a higher director. LONG story short, the director did something and contacted Unique and the tradeline was deleted in less than a month from all the bureaus.

I guess the point of the story is that Unique will delete the item quickly at the behest of the library; so I guess you might want to consider developing a good relationship with your local library management.

I know that's not really the answer to your question but maybe it can provide some alternatives in case the PFD doesn't work.
