Which banks check credit before opening a new checking account?

Considering opening a 2nd checking account but do not want any more inquiries right now. Would especially help to hear from "southern" friends but appreciate all input.

For us, Penfed, BofA, Wachovia, and Chevy Chase Bank within the DC area.

US Bank does soft pull only for verification.

Every CU I've dealt with in the past three years pulls a hard to open any account.

Randolph Brooks FCU pulled TU for new checking account.

Wells Fargo does. The other ones I have used in the past 20 years are only from the Pacific NW. If you want the names I will gladly give them to you.

Wachovia did not pull for either my husband or I but that was 8 months ago and on their "Refer a Friend" that we apped so no idea if that has changed or not.

Every bank I have banked with pulls. Currently, Wachovia, did a pull, but they didnt refuse me a checking account due to credit and my score at the time was in the upper 400's.

If i'm not mistaken, I think all the big banks do a soft pull on the credit. I've never heard of a bank do a hard except in my experience.. PenFed and Charles Schwab.

IM not southern..but Wachovia here in AL pulls a hard for a checking. And so do most other major regional banks...BOA pulled a hard for me in NY.

If you're looking for a bank that won't do a hard pull, you would probably have the most luck with a small local/community bank.
