Late payment of utility bill such as electric bill hurt your credit?

Hi,

I am wondering does a late payment of electric bill will have any impact on your credit history?

My previous balance wasn't pay and it carried over to this month payment which it is due August 27th.

Something like this is not going to be reported to the CB's.

If you don't pay them and the account is sent to a collection agency it may be reported to the CB's. You don't want that to happen..

I went a couple months without paying my electric bill by mistake because I thought it was being automatically taken from my account and it did not have any negative impact on my scores.

Not always true!!!!

We have DTE for our electric service and it reports to the credit agencies. Always shows a balance too based on when it reports (boo!!!!!!).

1) Remind me not to move to Michigan. DTE are definitely haters.

2) The payment cannot be reported as 30-days late until it is 30-days late - not simply unpaid by the time the next bill is cut, i.e. 5-days late!

It's water under the bridge now but this is why IMO everyone needs to check every account frequently (I check all mine every day) to make sure all is in order. None of us should assume something is being paid. I hope I'm not sounding too harsh. I've made SOOOOO many mistakes in my life.

My local electric company (UI in CT) reports a balance every month. Oddly enough, however they code it gets correctly parsed by TU as "Utility Company" but the other two categorize it as a miscellaneous installment account, I dunno why. Since it's been a relatively cool summer until last week, none of my electric bills have hit 200 bucks so far this year; last summer I had paid several $200-plus A/C bills by this time.
