Hi...I believe they're telling you that they confirmed that there was an inquiry.

If you don't agree that that inquiry should be on your credit report, they are telling you that you need to take that up with the bank that pulled your inquiry.

Is there a reason you don't want to contact the bank?

The problem is that the CRA will contact the bank and ask them, "Is this inquiry valid?" The bank would reply with a, "it is in our system" and it gets verified. And all of this is done via one computer talking to the other.

If you suspect ID theft, then consider filing a fraud alert. If there are TLs opened as a result of these inquiries, then file a police report too and file a report with the FTC. You can then use all of that and dispute via mail. THe inquiries and the TLs will be removed.

If these inquiries are legit, then they are supposed to report. They'll be there for the next 2 yrs with it impacting your FIC score for only the first year.

When I was talking with the credit bureau, I specifically asked the lady how they verify information. She said all they do is try to contact the other company. End of story. They do not request information, proof, or anything else. If the other company answers the phone, it's "Verified".

I elected to have her "correct" my name and my address on the credit report -- nothing else. I would rather approach the credit bureau with my receipts from sending certified mail, copies of letters, etc. It's a bit harder to "verify" something over the phone when they are looking at documentation in front of them.

Frustrating!

Do you have an account with Chase? BankOne is part of JP Morgan Chase and softs people on their behalf for AR. This could have been a miscoded soft, or maybe you app'ed credit with Chase.

Meanwhile, you can't dispute an INQ with the CRB's. It will never be removed that way. The CRB's have a legal obligation to report your INQ's. Would you like it if someone was looking at your credit reports and you had no way of knowing it? If you are absolutely certain that this INQ is bogus you will have to take it up with BankOne/Chase as a PP violation.

Really Creditwherecreditisdue? When I spoke with the credit bureau real person, she offered to dispute the pulls on my record. I think she offered to do it because I have the "opt out" on the account and companies pulled that I have NOT applied for credit with and did not have current accounts with.

Why did you omit a salient factor like being opt-ed out? You knew it was important. You didn't answer the Chase question either.

Apparently your dispute didn't work out.

And yes, you cannot normally dispute INQ's with a CBR. For the reasons I outlined.

Best of luck!
