I had already PIF, so they said only recourse was re applying, which I did, twice, last year and was shot down. Oh well I just opened an AmEx saving account to quench the superficial need to get back with Amex.

I would pay it. I think it would better for your report if you have an existing TL with a company you had an issue with. If your report was pulled by a creditor and brought up your debt with amex you could explain there was some extenuating circumstances and say, "look, I have an account with them" and make up an excuse for the error. It would be good to get back in their good graces, you can even spin it as a positive with future creditors.

For some reason it may be a reporting error...but the information has probably been refreshed. the reporting date seems to have been changed. You know what you should do...is pay the balance, get the oasis, then dispute the reporting date. Make sure you get the oasis card first though! It's a win-win. You're the honest person by paying the debt, you get a trade line out of it, and you get the thing off your cbr (plus the guaranteed amex)...which if you keep for a year, you can convert to a regular amex, automatic approval.

Amex is required to report the past due amount. If it goes 120 days past due back to back, two months in a row (this is possible if you know about account aging), they also have to report it....getting back on track, if these happen on account, it has to be reported and the oasis would not erase it from your cbr report. But if it's 150 or less in aging, the report can be erased. So that's definitely a plus!

The second one, I paid them, they offered me Oasis, I declined the offer, since my limit would only be $500, then later applied for a Zync (about 2 months later) and was approved. When I got the card, it said Member Since 92, the date I opened my original card....in my opinion AMEX is forgiving as long as you pay them back, no need to limit yourself with Oasis unless your score is really low and no way you could get approved for anything else. My score hovers between 690-700.
