major credit karma error

So this morning I updated my report on credit karma just for the sake of checking to see the effect of a new card I just opened. So the update showed a significant BOOST in my score because it reported the average age of accounts as 11 years! I have 4 tradelines... the oldest is 3 years and I am only 20. How could I have had 40+ years of credit? ? Major inaccuracies. I don't use them as my primary cms and i don't recommend them either! :-/

Well, an AAoA of 11 years doesn't imply 40+ years of credit; just 11 or more. But I understand what you're saying.

As if FICO scoring doesn't get incomprehensible enough!

eta: I meant to suggest that you might want to look at the reported opening dates on your cards. For instance, if one is an AmEx and you were once an authorized user on a parent's card, it might be reflecting the year in which his/her first card was opened. Alternatively, a card might simply be reporting the wrong opening date.

Anyway, it's a nice problem to have, especially if it shows up the same on your FICOs!

Lol no my parents would probably like to be AUs on my account. I'm sure its just a bad glitch in credit karma because for credit secure it doesn't reflect 11 years it only shows one... although I wish I was at 11 I'm not. I haven't had credit since I was 9 lol im going to pull my fako for all three tomorrow and see what happened

Not to be overly defensive but could it be that there is an error on your report? It could be very easy for some creditor to have mistakenly reported an account on your report. That after all is the whole point of credit monitoring.

If you think it is a site error, send an email to support@creditkarma.com and give us your username and we will take a look.

Yes CK just gave me 10 extra years so if it's not broke don't fix it.

or..... if it's broke and it makes you happy, don't fight it.

At any rate, Since lenders don't pull CK, it's just misleading to the consumers when it's not accurate.

Lol, how ironic! "CKFounder" I pulled all three of my reports today from CreditSecure by American Express and the error isn't present on EQ,EX, or TU. The inew account reports as opened in 5/2011 on all 3. Its definitely a CK error. :-/

Agreed. The inaccuracy is what bothered me but since its not my primary resource I won't fight it lol

As I said, if it is a bug, we will take a closer look. We have 2.6MM users and 1 report of this issue. Please send your user info to support and we can try to figure it out.

No fooling Myfico they have it listed as "Not on Record"
