Hi,

i think I am a victim of credit card identity theft or fraud. I received a credit card from capital one that is only 1 letter different from my actual name. What can I do to resolve this issue? Do I call capital one? Please advise.

Thanks

When you call them, I would ask them informally to provide you with a copy of the application papers for the account so that you can assist them in determiining that you did not authorize this account.

If they balk at such a request, remind them that it is information that you can compel them to provide under the provisions of FCRA 609(e) by simply first filing a police report and then sending a copy to them, so it would shorten the process if they were simply to send such papers to you now.

Ditto to the police report if you never applied for CapOne. There might be other CCs/credit accounts out there.
